  •  This week I met with my assistant producers and gave an overview of the producing process, they all seem really excited to get started so I am looking forward to working with them!   • Had to deal with a casting change but it seemed to resolve smoothly, glad it happened as early as it did

  •  I've finished all my blocking notes and Rayna, Julia and I are going to set up a time soon to go over blocking. The read-through Saturday went super well and we're going to give everyone line changes via email to have for next rehearsal. In case we can't get rooms for Monday for rehearsal since it is such a quick turnaround I offered my apartment in Allston for rehearsal because it's spacious so we can social distance. So far we've had 2 people at every rehearsal I think, which has been going really well and I'm sure we'll be able to keep this through the semester.

I also brainstormed some ideas for rehearsal activities/warm-ups that could help us work through some of the really intense moments in the show.

  • The free PDF script we're using is missing a few lines, so I'm looking through my bought script (I have it from doing the show before) and finding all the changes so we can write in the missing lines.

  • I'm also wondering from Eboard if there are other specific AD responsibilities I should be doing since I'm new to this

  •  Everything went great and it was a really good and fun experience with Troupe :) It made me miss theater and stage managing, I forgot how happy stage manager made me so thank you to One Acts for that! Would recommend that for future One Acts everything should be in one spreadsheet (contact information, script, when2meet, conflicts, rehearsal, rehearsal room, etc) because Tina and I did that and it was really convenient. And finally, big shout out to Claire, Liv, Emma, Siena and Katie, I love seeing you guys around and you guys made this experience really fun for me :).

  • This whole semester felt under-supported as a whole - new board fresh off covid, little support from SAO, new creative team members who could have used clearer guidelines

  • This semester was a bit of a struggle but hey we made it

    • Natalie is hopeful for next semester being cleaner and better!

  • Everyone as a whole has had a hard semester

    • Those last 3 weeks, people usually get worn down - the show switch definitely didn’t help that endeavor

    • Tried to keep positive!

  • Hopes no one is ever in this position ever again

    • Without this specific team, cast, and crew, this would not have worked out the way it did.

  • Despite the loss, being able to perform an original work of hers was a pretty cool experience

    • Meant more to her than Clue likely would have

  • Happy she got to do a show at all

  • This whole team was AMAZING. Had a great time working with all of them. Really grateful.

  •  What happened really sucked, was very difficult

    • Clue means a lot to him, and it was really unfortunate that it couldn’t happen

  • No one was really sure what to do when this news first came up

    • A bit frustrated with himself for not sticking up for the team and the show more than he did

    • Discussion of fairness - but this isn’t fair either.

    • There is zero precedent to a thing like this

    • If it had to be axed, wish it would have been sooner than 3 weeks out

  • If we were to have the chance to do it again, Gavin would have kept the same team for sure.

  • Frustrated that he never had the chance to voice concerns and stick up for everyone

    • Would feel wrong for him to be the only CT member who did it again

  • Jeff and Geoff:

    • Everyone involved was absolutely incredible for sticking through with the process!

    • The creative team was a joy to work with

    • Cast - 2 people had to drop for understandable reasons, but they were mostly eager and willing to stick it through!

    • We still put on a good, fun show!

    • Wish he interacted more with the crew, but very thankful for their amazing work!

    • Felt very bittersweet at the end of the process

      • Can’t help but wonder what Clue would have been

      • This wasn’t Clue, it will never be

        • But it was still fun and he’s glad he did it!

  • In summary, understandably frustrating and rough, but it was also very fun and impressive to see what was pulled together in 3 weeks! Cannot overstate the incredible capabilities of everyone involved

    • While it’s been the most stressful troupe show, it’s also been the most fun

      • Because of a very good team, so appreciative 

      • Never felt like he had to complain about anyone - really good team chemistry for sure.

        • Can sense the passion from everyone involved

  • Would not have been able to do this without his crew!

    • Big thanks to all of them!!!

  • Putting a mainstage together in 3 weeks was incredibly difficult

    • The amount of work put into a regular mainstage is already a lot, to compress it to 3 weeks was very very hard

    • Couldn't help but feel like he was falling behind

      • Doesn’t know what would have happened if a new TD was in this position

  • A lot of techies dropped

    • Kinda frustrating on top of the already difficult situations

  • To touch on the first meeting like Gavin did, switching the creative team would have been messy

    • Felt like tech wasn’t fully thought of in that meeting

      • Tried to bring up a tech concern, conversation kinda plowed over it

      • Without techies, shows don’t happen

  • Is there a lot to learn about this experience? This just shouldn’t have happened, and hopefully won’t ever happen again.

  • For future situations, the concerns of the tech team should be addressed more often

  • Jeff & Geoff was such an amazing experience!!! I am so so thankful that I got to be part of this play, even if it wasn’t the play we originally set out to put on. I definitely want to echo the comments from She Kills about not totally knowing what my position as stage manager entailed until tech week pretty much. I was fortunate enough to have a super patient and helpful team to work with, but I think that having a clearer indication of what a stage manager does would have been helpful as well. Not only to outline the requirements but also to collect all the tips and tricks stage managers have developed over the years. Other than that, I loved my time as stage manager! It was such an incredible time, especially as my first time stage managing or doing anything behind the scenes for a show, and I’ll never forget it. Everyone was super helpful, I loved getting to know the cast and crew, and it makes me so happy that I got to help put together Jeff & Geoff. My final note is that I would strongly urge the Troupe eboard to reevaluate their relationship with SAO and consider taking action to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again. Even if it’s just a strongly worded email, I believe that Stage Troupe should do something to let SAO know just how unacceptable their inaction was.  I would hate to see this happen again to another show or to other directors, and I’d also be more than happy to help out in any way with whatever action may be taken against SAO. Anyways, I’d hate to end this checkout on a downer, so thank you all again so so much for making this such a great experience, y’all are amazing, and I hope you all have a tremendous break <3333

  •  This past week, we blocked Clue! It was really hectic because we only had a cumulative six hours to work with, but we did it! I am certain that most of the cast remembers very little of what happened but that’s okay because we’re going to keep working on it next week. We moved our soft off-book date back a week, and I am about to email Steve asking if he is available this Wednesday 8PM-10PM to come guest direct. There are definitely still some logistics issues to work out but Gavin and I will be tackling those later this week… probably. We will be having a creative team meeting this week to talk about the next month, and I am very excited to touch base with the rest of the team!

We pulled a bunch of props/costumes/set dec stuff from the space and picked out some great paint and stencils for the set. We also have a finalized set design that is gonna be fun to build! One of our ATDs dropped but I think Emma and I will be able to handle things and will let everyone know if we need any help.

She Kills Monsters CT check ins

  •  “Rehearsals were held on Mon, Thurs, and Sat. All of the rehearsals went well (besides the rehearsal spaces themselves being a tad small), and soft off-book is tomorrow! Many people are in good positions as far as being off-script in advance goes and I'm confident that those who aren't yet will be in a good place. We are rapidly approaching the show date (three weeks from yesterday) and I'm super excited. It feels weird to not have to myself work on costumes, props, tech, etc. but I'm 100% confident that our team is going to put something amazing together. I'm also super excited for the outdoor performance, it means that we can get a larger audience and have to worry less about masking. I'm also hyped to see the costumes and to do a photoshoot w/ Marta! No questions atm.”

• Figured out process for build/tech week for F&F - moved building to the week before the original build week (Oct. 4th - 8th, 12th to 15th will be painting stuff)

• Set move-in on the 17th, “real” tech week will be that week, and then a smaller tech week a week before the show
