Show Check Ins

    • Director: Victor
      • Everyone is happy

      • Good mix of professionalism, fun and seriousness throughout the process
    • TD: Caitlin
      • Gave keys back to Jamie
      • This time slot is hard (weekend after Spring Break) – no way to guarantee how many people will be at move in; people will inevitably have to double up on roles
      • Need to clean up the workshop – paint cabinet particularly
      • One of the strike felons is pitching a show for the Fall 2016 season – just an FYI
      • When doing a period piece, make sure that crew has resources to really understand that specific period and make sure tech is appropriate
      • Maybe don’t rig things to the electrics – very difficult to put up and take down
      • Directors need to be urged to not complete thank you notes during strike
    • Producer: Emma and Andy
      • Ticket numbers: Saturday sold out, Friday sold 65 tickets and Thursday sold 33 tickets
      • Communication between creative team and producers is necessary and was definitely not a problem on Glass
      • Only problems arose because of timing, post Spring Break

      • Going to distribute GSU link sign up
  • One Acts
    • Director: Brittany
      • Picked the sides for auditions already
    • Director: Danielle
      • Zoe is busy because she is producing Spelling Bee this week
      • Want to be able to accommodate Spelling Bee actors and crew – they can audition any time that is convenient for them
      • Still deciding whether or not they want to have auditionees sing from the show or not – leaning towards not from the show
    • Monologue and Musical Number Director: Karen and Daniel
      • Meeting on Monday to talk about what they’re looking for in auditionees

  • VP: Alison
    • Need to get facilities to make the theater doors not slam and find out if they empty the new recycling bins

      • Spelling Bee is borrowing furniture and 2 flats; equal exchange for flats and platforms that we are using for Play It Again, Sam

Fall 2016 Mainstage and Parents Weekend Pitches

Good afternoon, Troupies! Here are the Mainstage and Parents Weekend Show pitches for the upcoming Fall 2016 semester: Mainstage

Come Back Little Sheba by William Inge, proposed by Taylor Tessitore and Christy George

Parents Weekend Show

The Addams Family by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, proposed by co-directors, Lauren Casabona and Paulina Ke, and Music Director Daniel Stocker

As previously decided, we have structured our season to include 1 Parents Weekend Show, 2 mainstage productions, and a One Acts and Monologue Festival (in the Student Theater at Agganis Arena) - a total of 3 major productions - so we have decided to reopen show submissions to allow for further pitches.

The deadline for further mainstage and Parents Weekend Show submissions will be the same as the deadline for One Act submissions and Director of Monologue and Musical Number applications, Wednesday, March 16th at 3PM. Submissions will be due to 111 Cummington (the MCS building) in Room B17. Please contact an Executive Board member or email stage@bu.edu if you have absolutely ANY questions about the pitching process - we would love to chat!

Finally, please join us at our Third General Meeting on Sunday, March 20th to hear pitches from the director hopefuls, cast your vote on our fall season, and nominate candidates for your 2016-2017 Executive Board! Further information on location and time will be released soon. See you there!

Executive Board Minutes 2/28/16

Show Check Ins

  • Dog Sees God: Checkout
    • Director: Karen
      • Overall, great experience
      • Overwhelmed by how much people responded to the show positively
      • Creative team was extremely helpful throughout the process – very collaborative
      • Important to have talk between TDs and SMs during Tech Week
      • Talkback was excellent – Director of MassKids, Jetta, was incredibly helpful to have on-hand
      • Important to talk to actors at the end of each rehearsal to check in, even if it’s not a particularly heavy scene of part of the show being rehearsed
      • 5 weeks was enough to rehearse this show but a longer show would be significantly more difficult to pull off in this amount of time
      • Definitely keep lines of communication open between directors and cast
    • SM: Erin
      • Very relaxed and fun rehearsal room
      • Best tech week she’s ever had
      • Only issue was with lighting department – only one member of four person team came to move in so Erin and TD, Sam had to hang all of the lights themselves; in the future lighting team needs to know that they need to be there throughout tech week
    • TD: Sam
      • Being a TD for the first time was awesome – particularly because of the creative team
      • 5 weeks was totally doable – TD just needs to be organized
      • Budget for Charity Show should have more defined guidelines; if we do have to spend money we should have parameters that dictate the max amount allowed to spend
      • Tech week went so well
      • A weird pattern of the process was people not showing up to things – will email strike felon list to Jamie
      • Need to give tech crew members talk about prioritization; people who are on multiple shows need to know how to prioritize better because things get jumbled easily
    • Producer: Danielle
      • Need to do better in terms of inclusion with producers – focus a lot of time and energy on making sure that TDs and SMs feel included and need to do the same for producers
      • T-shirts were so successful – people came up to cast and crew members during tech week and inquired about the show; we should try to get money from Stage Troupe to pay for t-shirts – honestly crazy to have a producer spend $400 of their own money
      • Outsold every spring semester show from last year – sold out on Saturday night!
      • Maybe should have had the talkback on a different night – Friday was our lowest selling night; make sure that the cast and crew work with charity and the issue beforehand so they can provide good insights
  • The Glass Menagerie
    • Director: Victor
      • Rehearsals are moving along well
      • Incorporating start/stop rehearsals as well as runs
      • Steve came in to guest direct after a run and his notes were so valuable
      • Actors are getting closer and closer to the truth of their characters
      • Photoshoots were done today and went without a hitch
    • SM: Alison
      • Officially hard off book
      • Lead was ill this week and could not go to the full hard off book run – but very confident that she will be
    • TD: Caitlin
      • Waited too long to put in wood order, so SAO said it would not be here until Wednesday; Jamie and Caitlin had to go to Home Depot to pick it up in a UHAUL today
      • OB will be renting lights from ALPS for Spelling Bee, and they proposed that those lights could used for both Spelling Bee and The Glass Menagerie without communicating with Caitlin; figured out a way to do so but need to let OB know this and confirm how much each group will be spending
      • Move in will be starting later on in the day (3PM) to accommodate post Spring Break travel
    • Producer: Andy
      • Had photoshoot today
      • Costumers got nearly all of the costumes for the show for free from Emerson
      • Submitting Warren poster tomorrow
      • Andy will send poster and cover photo to Karlie soon
      • T-shirt and bio form was due today – a lot of techies did not fill it out; working with Caitlin to make sure they do
  • Play It Again, Sam
    • Director: Daniella
      • Back on track rehearsal-wise
      • Will work each act separately this week and do a full run by the end of the week
      • Planning on doing more character work once lines are down
    • SM: Nicolette
      • Informed last minute that one actress had tech week for another show, so lost two rehearsals this week
      • Rearranged things so we should still be on schedule to complete our goal finishing blocking by spring break
    • TD: Chris
      • Department meetings are finally done
      • Set design changed so cut lists didn’t happen last week – looking to do it tomorrow or Tuesday so they can order wood ASAP and avoid the situation that The Glass Menagerie endured
      • Sound designer is new to Stage Troupe and wants to take a look in the theater at our system – will coordinate with Caitlin during her tech week
    • Producer: Karen
      • Scheduling has been a little crazy
      • Looking to get poster done this week
      • Not planning on doing bus ads – will do flyers instead

E-Board Check Ins

  • President: Michael
    • Will send out cast feedback tonight to the cast of Dog Sees God
    • Posted in the Stage Troupe Facebook group about new plays for the Play Library
    • Thinking of ordering a new Space Rules poster for The Space – Karlie will design it
    • Will meet on 3/13 at 6PM at the Theater – NOT on 3/6
  • VP: Alison
    • Got some rooms this week
    • Got keys back from Erin
    • Need info about MassKids, posters from TA Event and Dog Sees God
  • VPSP: Danny
    • More talkbacks in general – need to be planned better and further in advance
    • Movie night might not happen – still working out the kinks
    • Tentatively have an accompanist for One Acts
    • Karlie will send out a reminder email about pitch deadline
  • Treasurer: Brittany
    • Waiting to get money from W;t and Seussical
    • Need someone to pick up Dog Sees God poster tomorrow
    • Will send out another Google Form for t-shirt interest because we have a lot of new members
  • Secretary: Karlie
    • Put EventBrite link for Glass and Sam on appropriate show pages
    • Landed the Dog Sees God pitch for the Daily Free Press
      • Had an interview with Danny, Karen and the reporter on Thursday – went so well
    • Finally got the WTBU interview from the beginning of the semester - it was great!
  • TA: Jamie
    • Finished up safety training - TD of Spelling Bee still hasn't been trained
    • Learned how to order wood on OrgSync
    • OB removed their sound equipment from the workshop
    • Keys went from TD of Dog Sees God to TD of The Glass Menagerie
    • Tech feedback for Dog Sees God went out
    • Going to meet with Karlie and Danielle about relationship between producing and tech

Spring 2016 Cast Lists

Drumroll please! Did you get cast? Congratulations and stay tuned – your director will be contacting you in the near future!

If you did not get cast – we know that this moment is the worst and honestly nothing we say can really make it better. But know this – just because you weren’t cast doesn’t mean you aren’t a good actor, and it definitely doesn’t mean that we didn’t want you. This semester was extremely competitive as we saw an unprecedented amount of talent in our audition rooms. Know that even if you weren’t cast, we 1000% want you to stick around.

We still have so many more opportunities available to you this semester in acting and teching! Our fan-favorite special project, Tech Show, where “the actors tech, the techies act and the audience stays the same,” is a great way to get your feet wet in tech! If you’re interested, email our Technical Advisor, Jamie Johannsen, at jamiejn@bu.edu and she’ll place you on the crew. A little further off is our One Acts and Monologues Festival, and with it, a plethora of acting opportunities, which you’ll hear more about in late February!

Finally, our Tech Meeting is this Saturday, 1/30 at 4PM in “The Space” (check the “Facilities” tab for directions). Even if you’ve never done tech before, bear in mind that Stage Troupe’s motto is “Learning by Doing” and that there is no better time to try something new than right now. We’ll teach you every element of whatever department interests you – lighting, costumes, sound, set design, stage management, producing and more – and help you grow as a techie, an artist, and a leader. We absolutely adore our techies – they make up at least half of our group and are absolutely integral to the show production process. So please, come check out the Tech Meeting. You’ll be so very glad that you did.

Thank you so much to everyone for an incredible week and we can’t wait for an even more wonderful rest of the semester!

Spring 2016 Callbacks List

Go ahead, blow past this part of the post and search for your name - I won't be upset. So long as you scroll back up and read this when you’re done! If you were called back – congratulations! Callbacks will take place from 5PM – 10PM in CAS 316, TOMORROW, Thursday, 1/28. You are expected to stay for the entirety of callbacks, so if you have a scheduling conflict (or if you wish to drop a callback) please email stage@bu.edu with the conflict time and the shows that you were called back for. Keep an eye on your inboxes – some directors email those called back for their show.

For those who were not called back, we know. It really sucks. But this in no way, shape, or form means that you can’t or shouldn’t be involved with Stage Troupe. If you have absolutely any interest in tech, I urge you to come to our Tech Meeting this Saturday, 1/30 at 4PM in our build space that we appropriately call “The Space.” Absolutely NO experience is required!

If you really, truly just have an interest in being onstage, keep an eye out for audition postings for our One Acts and Monologues Festival during the month of February!

Thank you again to everyone who came out the past three days to audition and break legs to those who were called back!

Assassins 2016 Official Rules

Our lovely VPSP, Danny Ehrenpreis, has so graciously drawn up some very official rules for this year's installment of Assassins! They are as follows:

  1. You cannot kill somebody during the full allotted time of your target's academic commitments (i.e. classes, office hours, exams, labs, etc.).
  2. You cannot kill somebody during Stage Troupe or any other extracurricular theater group events (ie. rehearsals, shows, special projects etc.). This includes On Broadway, Wandering Minds, and Shakespeare Society.
  3. Nothing can be done that breaks BU Policy (i.e. going on roofs, breaking into buildings, damaging items etc.).
  4. Safety is PRIORITY and if it is compromised you will be immediately disqualified from the game.
  5. Stage Troupe Vice President of Special Projects, Danny Ehrenpreis, is the judge and the game master! What he says, and only what he says, goes!
  6. Any questions, comments or concerns must be sent to Danny Ehrenpreis (via email at dehrenp@bu.edu, text, smoke signal, etc.) as soon as possible so as the clarify the situation immediately!

Now get out there and have a blast, Troupies!

Executive Board Notes 12/6/15

Show Check Ins

  • Really Really
    • Director: Rachel
      • Really smooth process on her end
      • Felt confident as a director and in her abilities
      • Expectations as a director in Stage Troupe isn’t made clear to those who aren’t already aware of traditions in Stage Troupe
      • There should be a more systematic way to introduce new directors into Stage Troupe
    • Stage Manager: Erin
      • First time head stage managing a show
        • Helpful to have Karlie in the rehearsal room as a past SM to provide quick answers to questions
      • Really helpful that she got put on the fourth slot show – gave her more time to really learn the role as a new SM
      • All of the heads who are in the booth with SM must be there every night (ie. sound and lights)
      • Had really fantastic assistants
      • Returned keys
    • TD: Danny
      • Being hyper organized was super helpful
      • Talkback was highly successful – definitely recommend for the future
      • Email is best form of communication currently
      • Advice for future TDs: stay calm, stay cool, stay collected
    • Producer: Andy and Sarah
      • Amazon wish list was difficult to use but ended up being ok
        • Still had to do a fair amount of SDRs because it’s impossible to get certain things from Amazon
      • Processing SDRs right now
      • Came in extremely under budget
        • E-Board can use the remainder of the budget however it sees fit
        • Could definitely use it to replenish producer’s booth supplies – order Andy and Sarah put into SAO to do so got messed up
      • Sold out on Saturday night
      • Talkback went well – not a fit for every show but should be used more
      • Should do 5” x 7” headshots not 8” x 10” because it’s more expensive to do the latter
      • Hard to have producers be involved with a show when they have a show going up right after
      • Still need a new organizer for the producer’s booth
      • During performances, people were putting things in the producers booth without asking – should be avoided in the future
  • One Acts
    • Directors: Danny
      • Necessary to have directing for monologuers
    • VPSP: Ali
      • We should keep musical numbers in
        • Need to make sure that we have monologue and musical numbers director apply in the future to ensure that they’re committed
      • Respect issue between all parties involved in One Acts

      • Strike was a little messy but it happened
    • President: Michael
      • We’re going to do a survey for everyone involved in One Acts soon
    • TD: Chris
      • BUC was a great place to have One Acts – good alternative to the theater
      • Tech meetings were ineffective – people didn’t come so there wasn’t much that could be accomplished
      • Musical numbers need to be set in stone from casting on – people changed songs during tech week
      • Division of power was very unclear – felt like the TD and the overall director of One Acts
      • Returned keys
