Stage Troupe's COVID-19 Update

To Stage Troupe’s Membership:

As many of you know, it was announced today that BU is putting preventative measures in place starting this Monday to address the coronavirus outbreak. In addition to moving classes online and suspending large gatherings, the university has officially cancelled all student group events scheduled to take place between March 16th and April 13th. Of course, this will include Stage Troupe’s mainstage shows, Special Projects, meetings, rehearsals, and builds.

Though it is unclear exactly how these changes will impact Troupe this semester, certain things will not change. E-board will continue to hold meetings remotely (rather than in person) on a regular basis, so if you wish to be included in a meeting for any reason, please let one of us know and we will make it work. Additionally, I will continue to hold my regular office hours, and I invite you all to call or message me in lieu of attending them in person if you prefer to take the extra precautions. During the first week after spring break, I will hold additional office hours on Tuesday and Friday from 11 AM-12 PM in the West Campus Starbucks. If you have any questions or concerns or just want to talk to someone about how you’re doing, I welcome you all to either stop by during office hours or just shoot me a note at any time to talk. Finally, please note that the deadline for mainstage pitches for the Fall 2020 season is still Monday, March 16th at 11:59 PM!

I wish I could provide you with more concrete information at this time, but things are very much still up in the air. I assure you that E-Board will make every effort to keep lines of communication with the membership as open and transparent as possible as we receive updates and make adjustments to accommodate this situation. While I empathize with the profound disappointment this news provokes, I urge everyone to maintain optimism and composure going forward. In over seventy years, Troupe has certainly faced a number of obstacles, and in navigating them with grace we emerge stronger as a group and as individuals. I am confident that we will continue to make the best of this semester, even under these unusual circumstances. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to any member of E-Board if you have any questions or concerns, or just want to chat—we are here to support you in any way we can!

Stay calm, stay informed, and wash your hands!

On behalf of the 2019-2020 Executive board,
Kim Zak
President of Stage Troupe

If you were cast in a show, congratulations! There will be more information later in this email
If you were not cast in a show, we want to send you our sincerest compassion and we are so thankful that you were able to put yourself out there as a performer and share your art with us. We understand this news may be disappointing but you have the utmost support from the Stage Troupe executive board as well as from the community surrounding Troupe. As always, if you have any questions or need to talk to anyone, do not hesitate to reach out. We truly hope these decisions do not deter you from participating in Stage Troupe in other capacities and in the future, and we strongly encourage you to get involved in any of our various Special Projects (which includes acting opportunities!) and tech opportunities happening this semester. You can take a look at our calendar on our website or email our VPSP, Devon Mikaniewicz (devmikan@bu.edu) for more information about our Special Projects; for more information about tech opportunities, please come out to our fall tech meeting Sunday September 15 at 1PM in the Space or contact our technical advisor, Zach Lam (zlam20@bu.edu).

For those of you who have been cast in a show, please keep an eye on your email inbox for emails from your directors with all the information you’ll need to jump into the rehearsal process. Once again, congratulations!

Auditioning is never easy, and you should be so proud of yourselves for putting yourselves out there as an artist. We sincerely hope that you will get involved with Stage Troupe in other ways, either through acting, tech, or special projects, and we want you to know that you have the utmost support from eboard and within Stage Troupe if you want to have someone to talk to moving forward.

If you were called back for a show, please keep an eye on your email inboxes! You will be hearing from the directors very soon. Fall 2018 Season Announcement

On behalf of Stage Troupe's E-Board, we thank you all for your patience and understanding as we dealt with the unusual challenges this round of show selection has presented us with. We wish to communicate the selection process by which our season was decided so as to maintain transparency and hopefully clear up some questions you might have about this lengthy process.

When the original vote for the mainstage show was held, the majority of the membership voted for Clue Onstage directed by Taylor House. Unfortunately, Stage Troupe was unable to secure the rights to produce Clue Onstage due to the fact that, unbeknownst to us, a professional production has announced a national tour of Clue Onstage. Due to the shortage of time between now and the beginning of the semester, E-Board decided unanimously and after much discussion that, given that rights could be secured, Stage Troupe should produce Hair as a Special Project rather than as a mainstage.

To be clear: as per Stage Troupe's constitution, Hair was not eligible to become a mainstage show due to the fact that the pitch did not receive the majority of the membership's vote. We wish to emphasize that E-Board made every effort to adhere to the results of the vote, but the unforeseen circumstances regarding rights access were insurmountable. Furthermore, because the show was selected by Troupe's E-Board rather than by the membership, it must be produced as a Special Project instead.

Ultimately, Stage Troupe successfully obtained the rights to Hair, thus granting us the opportunity to add it to our fall 2018 season. Given the acquisition of rights, our confidence in the creative team, and the limited amount of time that inhibits us from potentially reopening pitches, E-Board has decided that Hair is an excellent addition to Stage Troupe's fall 2018 season. So without further ado, we proudly present the third production—a Special Project—to round out Stage Troupe's fall 2018 season:

Hair: the American Tribal Love-Rock Musical

Directed by Syd Romo
Music Directed by Ben Colgan
Choreographed by Arielle Kimbarovsky

We understand that this unusual situation might create some confusion, and we on E-Board assure you that we are here to support and communicate with you to the best of our ability. Please direct any and all questions, concerns, or thoughts you wish to share to stage@bu.edu. Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this crazy process! We are very excited for our fall season and we hope you are, too!

Fall 2018 Season Announcement Postponed

As you might have already noticed, we have not yet announced our finalized fall 2018 season due to unforeseen circumstances; this announcement will be postponed until further notice. Just to clarify: The only show that is still pending is the second main stage of the season. Footloose and The Nerd remain part of the season as planned!

We know it can be frustrating or unnerving to wait for so long, and we are grateful for your patience and your understanding. We apologize for the delay but we promise to let you know as soon as possible! Until then, feel free to reach out to a member of E-Board with questions and try to relax. Need a distraction? Keep an eye on our social media for Sunday Spotlight posts for our season directors and announcements about our first events of the school year! Thanks for hanging in there!

Pitch Deadline Extended

Hello Troupies! E-Board has elected to extend the deadline for pitches for the fall 2018 season. In order to expand the possibilities for the season, we are accepting pitches for Special Projects such as one-act plays and singular scenes in addition to pitches for main-stage plays!

You can find the pitch form on the Forms and Resources page of the website. Please include with your pitch form a copy of the script. A digital copy of the completed pitch must be submitted to stage@bu.edu by 11:59 pm on Wednesday, June 20th.

Don't hesitate to contact stage@bu.edu with questions!

Pitches Reopened for Fall Season

We regret to announce that, due to unforeseen circumstances, we will not be able to produce Gloria as a main stage show during the Fall 2018 season. That said, we have reopened pitches for our upcoming season! If you are interested in pitching, please find the mainstage pitch form under "Show Proposal Forms" on the Forms and Resources page.

Please include with your completed pitch form a copy of the script. Due to the timing of this round of pitching, we will not require that you submit a hard copy of the proposal. A digital copy of your show proposal is due on June 10th by 11:59 pm to stage@bu.edu.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact stage@bu.edu!

Family & Friends Weekend Annoucement

We're very excited to announce our 2018 Family & Friends Weekend musical!

Is it September yet??

Welcome to the NEW Website!

Things look a little different around here, don't they? It was about time we got a makeover. Take a look around and see what you think! Navigation should be fairly easy-- all of the tabs are exactly the same as before. There is a new Calendar widget on the homepage that should make finding dates and times for everything easier than ever before!

As always, email stage@bu.edu if you have any questions or concerns!

Summer Show 2017 Pitches

Both positions will be super casual and super-duper low-key. We would appreciate any help you guys have to give us!

Those of you who came to the GM got a great little sneak-peek of the set for Stage Troupe's final mainstage, which is going up at the end of this week!

Two Announcements for Stage Troupe's Upcoming Season

Twenty-sixteen,
going on ‘seventeen.
Happy New Year!
We hope you all had safe and fun evenings as the new year rolled in.

2017 is going to be spectacular. How do we know that, you ask? Well, we’ve got two spectacular announcements about our Spring 2017 season! Read up, folks—you don’t wanna miss this.

New Mainstage Announcement The votes are in, and we’re thrilled to say that Ellie Lavelle and James Robson will be directing The Fantasticks as Stage Troupe’s final mainstage of the season! These two have shown incredible dedication to Stage Troupe already, and it’s going to be amazing to see what they do as directors. Congrats, Ellie and James!

New Director Announcement Due to academic and personal reasons, Daniel Leary has decided to resign as the director of Twelve Angry Jurors this season. Dan will be spending much of his spring semester pursuing an impressive future in medical school and beyond, and we truly wish him the best of luck. Troupe will always be here to welcome Dan in whatever capacity he may be involved; academics always come first, and we respectfully understand and commend his decision to set himself up for postgraduate success.

As recompense for stepping down, Dan has proposed that Cassidy Donohue take his place as director. The E-Board has taken his suggestion into serious consideration, and we all agree that Cassidy will do a tremendous job as director of “Twelve Angry Jurors.” Cassidy is extraordinarily passionate about this show and more than fit to be its brand-new director. Welcome, Cassidy, to the team of Spring ’17 directors!

General Meeting #1 GM1 is just around the corner, so mark your calendars for Sunday, January 22nd! Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for another reminder with more details about its location. It’ll be so great to see all of your well-rested faces! Of course, in the meantime, don’t forget to follow us on social media:

P.S.

We love hearing from you! If you have any questions or concerns for the E-Board, never ever hesitate to reach out to us! It can be a little daunting, we know, but we’re all your friends, here, and we want to make sure that you’re having a blast with Troupe. So, hey, send us an email, shoot us a text, or even type up a message on our fancy, new anonymous feedback form on the “Contact Us” section of our website. We’re always looking for ways to make sure everyone is as in love with Troupe as we are.

Important Announcement Regarding the Spring 2017 Season

Dear Stage Troupe, Out of consideration for concerns from the membership, the creative team of Avenue Q has decided to pull their show from the Spring 2017 Season.

This special circumstance means that we will be re-opening pitches for the third mainstage slot of the semester. While we understand that this is an unexpected change of plans, we nevertheless welcome prospective directors to jump into action. The deadline for pitches will be this coming Wednesday, December 21st. Please send your pitches to stage@bu.edu, jacobsen@bu.edu, AND smarois@bu.edu.

How will pitches work?

This is going to be a quick process, but the E-Board aims to make this selection as efficient and fair as possible. We would more than appreciate your help by taking part in Reading Committee! If you're interested in joining Reading Committee, please contact scharvat@bu.edu by Wednesday, December 21st as well. Once Reading Committee is assigned, their reports and questions are to be finished by Saturday, December 24th @ 12PM. E-Board, having also taken part in the Committee, will review the reports and compile questions to ask the directors.

Do we get to vote?

Of course! Voting will take place through an online poll that we will release to the membership on Wednesday, December 28th. On the poll, there will be video clips of the directors pitching and answering Reading Committee questions all in one take. This will ensure that the pitching process is as similar to the usual GM format as possible. The membership will have 48 hours to hear the directors' visions and submit their vote for the final show.

There are a lot of technicalities to sort through during this process, but we want to be sure that we have the best season possible! If you have any questions regarding this process, please feel free to reach out to us. We look forward to hearing your pitches!

General Meeting #4 Recap

Happy Holidays!  Thanks so much to everyone who helped out with Space Cleaning and showed up for our final GM of the semester! Here's a recap of everything we went over:

BUSTies Voting

BUSTies is our annual awards ceremony at the end of the Spring semester during which the shining stars of the year are given trophies and the seniors of Stage Troupe are roasted to a crisp before they head off into their postgraduate lives. At this GM, the Troupe membership filled out ballots to vote for the actors, techies, and directors who will receive BUSTies at the end of the year. And now we wait...

Spring 2017 Technical Advisor

Welcome to the team, partner!

Senior Divas Holiday Showcase

We have just one more event before we wrap up: it's time for OB and Stage Troupe's annual Senior Divas Holiday Showcase! Come to the Student Theater this Tuesday, December 13th, at 7PM to see your favorite BUT seniors show off in a fun holiday concert!

General Meeting #1

Spring 2017 Auditions

Auditions for the Spring 2017 season will be soon after GM1 on Monday, January 23rd, Tuesday, January 24th, and Wednesday, January 25th! Details of the process will be revealed at the next GM!

Announcement: Stage Troupe Technical Advisor Resignation

Dear Stage Troupe membership, It pains us to say that, due to personal reasons, our lovely Taylor Tessitore has decided to resign from her position as Technical Advisor for the 2016-2017 academic year. Despite these sad circumstances, we're so happy to hear that she is pursuing a fulfilling new opportunity, and we invite her nevertheless to remain an active, truly valued member within Stage Troupe.

We are now accepting applications for the Technical Advisor position for the Spring 2017 semester. If you're interested in taking on this role, please fill out an application and submit it to stage@bu.edu by 11:59PM on Friday, December 9th. Our Vice President, Erin Billings, will review the applications and confer with the rest of the Executive Board to appoint our new TA.

We will present our decision to the membership at our General Meeting on Sunday, December 11th. In addition to BUSTies voting, we'll also ask for a majority vote in favor of the new Technical Advisor. If our potential new TA has 2/3 of the membership’s approval, they will join our E-Board for the following semester. We're excited to see who we'll be taking in as part of our team!

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to a member of the Executive Board or send us an email at stage@bu.edu.

  • If you intend to bring up a concern during a Closed E-Board Meeting, please  be sure to let us know beforehand—send an email to stage@bu.edu so that we know what to expect and so that we may assess your concerns attentively.
  • SENIORS! Our Senior Divas night is going to be on Tuesday, December 13th! Start thinking about a fun lil' ditty to perform for BU student theatre's last evening together before finals and the Winter Break. Also, if you have any ideas for a charity to which to donate our Senior Divas proceeds, shoot an email stage@bu.edu and/or onbrdway@bu.edu!

Whew, you made it to the end of the email! Thanks for bearing with me; so much is going on in Stage Troupe, and you're a real trooper (I'm hilarious) for keeping up with it all. I hope you have a great week of auditions, and I'll see you all at Come Back, Little Sheba this weekend!

And, finally, have a happy Thanksgiving. We on the Stage Troupe E-Board are so incredibly thankful for all of you. We hope you feel like truly loved members of our family, and we wish you a peaceful few weeks ahead. I can say, on behalf of everyone on the E-Board, that we're always around to give you a great big hug if ever you should need one. What with all the hostility swarming around everywhere, we want you to know that you're safe and loved wherever fellow Troupies may be.

Gobble gobble,

Nathan Wilgeroth

One-Acts and Charity Show and Pitches—OH MY!

There's a whole lot of news swarming around this week, and I'm here to squeeze in another tidbit of information for you. It's time to announce the Charity Show and pitches for the Spring 2017 season as well as the one-act selections for this December's One-Acts & Monologues Festival! To start, here's a list of our Fall One-Acts & Monologues Festival productions:

10 Minutes to Save the World by Addy Davies; directed by HwaYoun Kang

Pappia Pia, written and directed by Lauren Casabona and Paulina Ke

Jimmy the Antichrist by Keith J. Powell; directed by Brian Rollins

We're also extremely excited to announce our Charity Show for the Spring 2017 Season:

God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza; directed by Maggie Skaza and Erin Mc Sweeney

And, finally, here are the shows that will be pitched to the membership at the next General Meeting for the Spring 2017 Mainstage Productions:

Arcadia by Tom Stoppard; proposed by Azanta Thakur

Avenue Q by Jeff Whitty, Robert Lopez, and Jeff Marx; proposed by Ellie Lavelle

Twelve Angry Jurors by Reginald Rose; proposed by Dan Leary

(EDIT 11/12: The Pillowman is longer going to be pitched for the Spring semester)

Yowza, what a huge load of information! Are you guys psyched? I'm psyched. For next semester, our season will include our Charity Show, two Mainstage Productions, and another One-Acts & Monologues Festival. It will be up to the entire Stage Troupe membership to vote on which of these above pitches will be chosen to take part in the upcoming season.

Please join us for our Third General Meeting on Sunday, November 13th, at 7PM in the Student Theater to hear more details about everything listed above. This meeting is super important, as we'll give you information about how to audition for our Fall One-Acts & Monologues festival, we'll tell you what to expect from Maggie and Erin's upcoming Charity Show, AND you'll get to take part in voting for the Spring's other two Mainstages!

See you there!

BUSTies 2016 Hosts and Fall 2016 Show Order

After seeing the presentations from two extremely impressive BUSTies hosting teams today, we are excited to announce that Alexandra Edwards and Hanna Anderson will be teaming up to host BUSTies 2016! Additionally, we have selected Abby Kass and Faith Reed to be the BUSTies Event Manager and Assistant Event Manager, respectively. Mark your calendars for Thursday, April 28th at 6PM in Photonics Room 906 because this is one night you certainly do not want to miss! Look out for the Facebook event soon!

Also, we decided the show order for our Fall 2016 season. It is as follows:

The Addams Family, October 21st, 22nd, and 23rd

Stupid F$&king Bird, November 3rd, 4th, and 5th

Come Back Little Sheba, November 17th, 18th, and 19th

Have a great night, Troupies, and we'll see you all at our Spring 2016 One Acts, Monologues, and Musical Numbers Festival this Friday, April 15th, and Saturday, April 16th, at 8PM in the Student Theater at Agganis Arena!

Fall 2016 Mainstage and Parents Weekend Pitches

Good afternoon, Troupies! Here are the Mainstage and Parents Weekend Show pitches for the upcoming Fall 2016 semester: Mainstage

Come Back Little Sheba by William Inge, proposed by Taylor Tessitore and Christy George

Parents Weekend Show

The Addams Family by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, proposed by co-directors, Lauren Casabona and Paulina Ke, and Music Director Daniel Stocker

As previously decided, we have structured our season to include 1 Parents Weekend Show, 2 mainstage productions, and a One Acts and Monologue Festival (in the Student Theater at Agganis Arena) - a total of 3 major productions - so we have decided to reopen show submissions to allow for further pitches.

The deadline for further mainstage and Parents Weekend Show submissions will be the same as the deadline for One Act submissions and Director of Monologue and Musical Number applications, Wednesday, March 16th at 3PM. Submissions will be due to 111 Cummington (the MCS building) in Room B17. Please contact an Executive Board member or email stage@bu.edu if you have absolutely ANY questions about the pitching process - we would love to chat!

Finally, please join us at our Third General Meeting on Sunday, March 20th to hear pitches from the director hopefuls, cast your vote on our fall season, and nominate candidates for your 2016-2017 Executive Board! Further information on location and time will be released soon. See you there!
