GM #1 Recap

GM #1 Recap

It was so nice to see old and new faces at the GM tonight. We went through some fun facts, a ton of information, and a foreboding assassins presentation. If you missed it, no worries, tune in for a full recap below!

Our Season
We have three great shows coming up:

Jane the Plain
Directed by Babatunde Alford
February 22-24

Smokefall
Directed by Conner Reed
March 29-31

Next to Normal
Directed by Lara McCallister
April 12-14

Auditions
Ready to jump back into acting? Auditions for our three main stage shows will be held January 22, 23, and 24 from 6-10 PM in 700 Beacon St, Room 209! You only have to come on one of these nights and you will not be required to stay the whole time. Please print out an audition form (located on the 'Forms & Resources' page of the Troupe website) for each show you would like to audition for. No preparation is necessary for Jane the Plain or Smokefall. For Next to Normal, please prepare about a minute of a song to be sung a capella. There will be cold readings for all three shows.

Callbacks will be held the following Thursday from 6-10 PM in the same place. If you are called back, you are expected to stay the whole time (though you may not have to). If you have any conflicts, please email them to stage@bu.edu as soon as you can and the directors will try to accommodate you.

Producing and Tech Applications
Apply to produce! Apply to tech! The shows can't go up without you. All applications are available on the Troupe website under Forms & Resources. The deadline for producing applications is Saturday, January 27. You can email our treasurer, Andy, at moellera@bu.edu if you have any questions. Tech applications are due by Monday, January 29 to either crf18@bu.edu or stage@bu.edu. Email Caitlin, our Technical Advisor, at crf18@bu.edu if you have any questions!

If you'd like to learn more about tech before you submit your application, the general tech meeting for this semester is this Saturday, January 27 at 3 PM in the Space! The Space is located in the alley behind Raising Cane's. Don't worry, if you've never been there before, someone in a Troupe shirt will be outside Cane's at 2:45 to guide you. The directors will be there to discuss the specific tech visions for their shows. Even if you've never touched a power tool or worn any makeup, you may find your new passion in tech! NO experience is necessary to apply!

Money, Money, Money!
In order to audition/be cast/tech/produce, you must pay DUES! They are $7 for the semester and we will give you the link to pay at auditions. If you already paid last semester for the full year, you do not have to pay again. And as we all know, Andy will catch you if you try to sneak by without paying.

Special Projects
We have many neat special projects coming up this semester, some which will be done in collaboration with the other theater groups on campus. Here's a preview of some of them:

  • TA Event: Caitlin’s Colonial Cannibal Cotillion 20Cait-teen - February 2nd

  • Tech Show: February 9 & 10 at 8:00 p.m.

  • BU Theatre Formal - March 1st

  • Capture the Flag - Date TBD

  • Spring Showcase - April 26-28

  • BUSTies - May 1

Seniors, start deciding if you'd like to get roasted or want to roast somebody. Our VPSP, Abby, will be holding a roast workshop in the near future, so stay tuned for info about that. She's also going to start looking for a BUSTies event manager, so consider applying if you think you may someday want to be VPSP.

And a quick note on Assassins: a benevolent higher power has granted us an extra day of preparation, so the game will start TOMORROW night at midnight, not tonight. Stop by auditions to receive your clothespin!

General Meeting #3 Recap

Okay, not exactly, but the sun isn't setting at 4PM anymore, so I call that a win.
Anyway, hey! Thanks to all of you who came out to GM3—your attendance has greatly influenced the FUTURE of STAGE TROUPE. Whoa whoa whoa, that's fun, huh? If you couldn't make it to the meeting, no problem! We'll still keep you updated. Here's all that went down:

Voting for the Executive Board will take place at our Fourth General Meeting on Sunday, April 2nd, at 7PM in The Student Theater. The candidates will have two minutes to deliver a speech, followed by a brief question-and-answer period for each position.
Remember, you must be present at the meeting in order to cast your vote! Additionally, you can still be nominated! Have another member nominate you and another to "second" the nomination at GM4 itself, and you will be entered into the election. If you are in the running, or are considering going this electoral race, you are both welcome and highly encouraged to reach out to the current E-Board Member holding the position you're after!
Our Technical Advisor position is selected differently than the rest of the E-Board, as it includes filling out an application and sending it in for review. Those interested can reach out to the current TA, Christopher Remillard, at chrisre@bu.edu for information. The TA Application will be due on Wednesday, April 12th!
Spring 2017 Theatre Showcase Auditions
We're gearing up for Stage Troupe's new Theatre Showcase, which will take place on April 21st and 22nd at 8PM in the Student Theater! If you have a monologue, musical number, or short scene that you and/or a friend would like to present in the Showcase, we want you to audition! You don't need to be completely off-book or performance-ready in order to audition. And, of course, if you want to perform but don't have any song or scene in mind, reach out to us, and we'll try to help you find something!
Auditions will be held on March 27th and 28th from 6-10PM. Keep your eyes peeled for a Facebook event and announcement of the location! We hope to see you there!
Summer Show 2017 Pitches
Will you be in Boston this summer? Looking to direct a show that could greatly influence both BU's and Troupe's first impressions to incoming freshmen? You should pitch for Summer Show! If you're interested, please fill out a Summer Show pitch form by Monday, April 3rd, at 4PM. Make sure you ffill out the form, seal it in an envelope, and drop it off at Eric Jacobsen's office in 111 Cummington Avenue, Room B17.
BUSTies 2017 Hosts
Move over, NPH. Stage Troupe has our hands on the best award-show hosts anyone could ask for. We're excited to announce that Lucy Gamades and Christopher Remillard are teaming up (surprised?) to host of this year's BUSTies! This, one of our favorite events of the year, will be on Tuesday, May 2nd, at 6:30PM. Mark you calendars; you won't want to miss the hosts, the roasts, the ghosts (will there be ghosts? You'll have to show up to find out.)!
Upcoming Production
HOLD UP! We have a show this weekend! Don't forget to come back down to the Student Theater this week for our next Mainstage Production!

And, finally, have a happy Thanksgiving. We on the Stage Troupe E-Board are so incredibly thankful for all of you. We hope you feel like truly loved members of our family, and we wish you a peaceful few weeks ahead. I can say, on behalf of everyone on the E-Board, that we're always around to give you a great big hug if ever you should need one. GM 2 Recap- Pitches and Other Important Info!

Didn’t get to participate in the wonderful Troupe Sunday this past weekend, or just want to hear the information again? So many wonderful things happened and a whole lot of important information was given about the upcoming month that you don’t want to miss! So, the following is a summary of the events that occurred for your viewing pleasure:

First, we are so blown away by the amazing support you all showed this weekend. The TA Event: Marissa’s Magical Menage a Trois was a smashing success. We would like to thank all that participated in the night’s festivities, the performers, bakers, MCs,  special guests, and most of all, the wonderful patrons whose generosity and support was outstanding. We were able to raise an amazing $800 for this year’s Charity Show, Doubt: A Parable and a great cause in Prevent Child Abuse America. We could not be more thrilled.

Next, we would like to personally thank those who stepped up Sunday evening and ran for Treasurer. It is nice to see such passion for being leaders in Troupe. Furthermore, we would like to extend the warmest of welcomes to the newest member of the Executive Board, Treasurer Joe Gambino!

Important Upcoming Dates and Information

We need BUSTIES HOSTS!!!

Love BUSTIES? Have brilliant beyond brilliant ideas of how the event should go? Come on in to Eboard on Sunday, February 16, at 6PM and “pitch” them to us!

We ask that any person or group pitching to host BUSTies consider the following things: how the event will run as a whole, including show order, theme, dress-code, and other logistical concerns; if you're a part of a group, how each member of your group will actively contribute to the process; and finally, how your sense of humor will translate to an audience with diverse opinions of their own.

We look forward to seeing you all on the 16th of February!

If you want to pitch a show for next semester (Parents’ Weekend, Mainstages, Summer Show or for ONE ACTS!), here’s what you need to know!

- Be a dues paying member ($5) - Have a show you know and want to pitch - Make sure the rights are available - Get the script, make 2 copies - Download and fill out the pitch form from the website (http://bustagetroupe.com/members/forms-and-resources/) - Put all of that (the scripts and the form) into a manila envelope and bring it to 111 Cummington Mall labeled with “Stage Troupe” and this address:

ATTN: Eric Jacobsen 111 Cummington Mall Rm B17

***Please specify what “type” of show you are pitching i.e. Mainstage, Parents’ Weekend, Summer Show, One Acts… on the envelope as well.***

**PITCHES ARE DUE BY 3PM ON WENESDAY, FEBRUARY 19TH**

This deadline is incredibly soon and fast approaching, so please please please if you’re thinking at all of pitching and want help getting started, contact the board! We’re here to help)

If you have any questions about the pitching process, please contact stage@bu.edu.  The Pitching Meeting is the next GM, SUNDAY, March 2 at 7PM! All shows will be pitched and the membership shall vote and find out the next season that same day! Yay, democracy!

Pitches mean one more thing, yet another opportunity to further your involvement in Troupe! So, if you would like to be on READING COMMITTEE for the pitches (you CANNOT do this if you are pitching), then please email Lauren at kolodkin@bu.edu.

Speaking of pitches…. ONE ACTS are April 25 & 26!

While y’all are pitching and selecting those monologues, we’re looking for TECH and PRODUCERS!

Once again, our sincerest thanks to all who came out to the TA Event and Tech Show. We could not imagine a more amazing turn out and we are so proud of all the work that this membership has done and all that you have accomplished.

We’ll see you at the next GM, March 2 at 7PM for pitches and Eboard nominations for next year, and our first show of the season, Charity Show 2014- Doubt: A Parable, February 27- March 1!

The directors will give more specifics about what they’re looking for and you can find out about the different departments from our TA! RSVP with the Facebook Event! There is a $5 membership fee to tech for Troupe, dues will be collected at this meeting.

Speaking of tech…

TECHSTRAVAGANZA is BACK!

February 1, 2014

Noon at the Student Theater

A fresh take on tech workshops, Techstravaganza is a full day of learning your tech positions by doing them. So come on out, learn something new, and hang out with your fellow Troupies!

Now, contrary to popular belief, acting and tech aren’t all we have to offer you this semester. We also have a ton of awesome UPCOMING SPECIAL PROJECTS!

TA EVENT: MARISSA’S MAGICAL MENAGE A TROIS

February 8,2014

8PM in the Student Theater

The TA Event is our annual fundraiser for our Charity Show and this year’s charity Prevent Child Abuse America. Join us  for some laughs and a wonderful time- see a skit performed by the Eboard, compete in a cake-making contest, pie the Eboard, bid on a variety of items,  and witness a few special performances from our incredibly talented membership! There is a $5 entrance fee, further donations are greatly appreciated.

TECH SHOW

February 14 &15, 2014

“Where the techies act, the actors tech, and the audience remains the same.”

‘Tis the season for everyone’s favorite special project! Join us for a performace of an adaptation of a classic movie (kept a secret until the show, as per tradition) with a little Stage Troupe flair that’s sure to never disappoint!

ASSASSINS

Just a reminder to be smart and responsible, be safe, and have fun! The games have begun folks.

May the odds be ever in your favor.

BUSTies

Now, the most wonderful time of the year, BUSTies season, is still a ways away. BUT we need hosts!

If you’re interested in hosting BUSTies, please come to Eboard on January 26 at 6PM prepared with a theme, some jokes, and a plan to “audition”.

**If you have an questions about any special projects, would like to host, perform, or donate items for auction for our TA Event, or  would like to host BUSTies, please contact our VPSP Lauren at kolodkin@bu.edu for further details or questions!**

Stage Troupe’s Library is now open!

If you’re looking to expand your theatre knowledge or pitch a show next semester, Troupe now has a library for you to browse and check things out! Or, if you have a bunch of plays laying around and would like to donate to place where they will be loved, Troupe’s library is definitely an option! For further details or to check out or donate works, please contact our President, Ilana at iberman@bu.edu  or VP, Emily at ejmck@bu.edu.

Lastly, it is with a heavy heart that we must report the unfortunate resignation of our beloved Treasurer. Due to uncontrollable circumstances, Hanna will not be able to continue in her position with us this Spring, which means an opportunity has opened up for one of you, our wonderful membership, to step up! Hanna will be with us in the interim and available for guidance for the incoming Treasurer, so have no fear. Nominations and elections for Treasurer will take place simultaneously at our Second GM on February 9, 2014 at 7PM. If you are interested and have any questions about the situation or the duties of the Treasurer, please don’t hesitate to contact Hanna at hwass@bu.edu.

You made it! The first recap is always the longest, so congratulations and thanks for reading.

Don’t forget to like us on Facebook, join the Group, and follow us on Twitter if you don’t already and check the website and blog at bustagetroupe.com for all further updates!

See you all soon!

GM 4 Recap: Happy Holidays to All and to All a Good Night

Have finals got you down? Swamped in papers and projects and just couldn’t get away for the GM last weekend?? Good news is, Winter Break is just around the corner, which means you’re almost done aaaand I’m here to give you a rundown of our last GM of the season!

First and foremost, we would like to congratulate all of you Troupies on yet another FANTASTIC Season! From Parents’ Weekend to our One Acts Festival, it was wonderful to see all of our members hard work and great talent pay off and it was a honor to work with and get to know each and every one of you. We hope you had as much fun as we did and we cannot wait for what next semester will bring!

Speaking of next semester, we would like to once again congratulate the directors of our spring season and officially announce the show order for next semester.

Troupies, here is your Spring 2014 Season:

Doubt, a Parable

Directed by Eli Brenna

February 27- March 1, 2014

Raised in Captivity

Directed by David Olson

March 20-22, 2014

Rope

Directed by Kyle Tague

April 3-5, 2014

Twelfth Night, or What You Will

Directed by Abi Oshins and Emily Prescott

April 10-12, 2014

And that’s not all. We have some other really awesome things to offer next semester.

First up, Stage Troupe’s Library is now open!

Starting this spring we are proud to offer our membership another resource to expand your knowledge and use some creativity. The library will contain various plays and resource books for your reading pleasure. So if you’re looking at directing, or interested in just taking a break from a text book you can enjoy some good theater related reading! All you need to do is contact either our President, Ilana, or VP, Emily to check out at work OR if you have some books at home that you’d like to donate, let them know!

The library is not the only exciting thing coming up next semester. Which leads me to…

TECH SHOW!

“Where the techies act, the actors tech, and the audience remains the same.”

Tradition has maintained that this show, selected and directed by the Technical Advisor, is usually an adaptation of a popular movie- the title of which is kept a secret until opening night! Actors from the previous season are encouraged to tech, while technicians from the previous season are invited to act. A totally FREE and FUN event Tech Show has become a highlight of the Spring semester, a unique experience that allows members to try their hand at an aspect of theatre they do not usually participate in.

Want to be involved? Email Marissa at mcheifet@bu.edu with your name and what you’d like to do!

ASSASINS!

It’s back! That crazy, fun, chaotic, and cryptic special project. Lauren has started taking sign-ups for our annual “friendly” game of Assassins! Let her know at kolodkin@bu.edu if you would like to throw your name in the ring and remember to bring $2 to the first GM of next semester to play!

And finally, the most wonderful time of the year: BUSTies!

Named after B.U.S.T, the acronym for Boston University Stage Troupe, BUSTies is our annual awards ceremony. We gather as an organization to honor our departing seniors and celebrate the end of another successful year of great theatre. The evening includes acting, directing, and technical awards, roasts for the graduating seniors, and superlative write-ins just for fun. Votes have been cast for Fall 2013, but we still need hosts and roasts! If you are interested in hosting BUSTies, let Lauren know and prepare a pitch for the E-board that you will present sometime before auditions when we return. If you’re a SENIOR prepare to be roasted and all you youngins’ out there who have always wanted the chance to roast and share your appreciation for those that have come before you- contact Lauren at kolodkin@bu.edu and tell her your plans!

Finally, we’ve a bit of house keeping for you…

Do we owe you money?? Reimbursements are in and Drowsy and Alice Check requests are coming through on a rolling basis. If you have any questions about funds… feel free to contact Hanna at hwass@bu.edu and she’ll let you know what’s up.

And

The Space and the Theater are our homes. We have been given the wonderful opportunity to utilize such great resources, something that many do not have. Both are all tidy and clean thanks to Space Cleaning- let’s do our best to keep it that way! Love it, cherish it and furthermore, if you noticed anything we need during space cleaning or throughout the semester, feel free to let us and Marissa know!

Now, before we part for break, we have one last treat.

Stage Troupe and BU On Broadway present

HOLIDAY CAROLING!

Wednesday, December 11, 2013 8:30 PM in the Student Theater

The seniors of Troupe and OB are proud to present a selection of carols and songs for your pre-finals enjoyment. The event will be free but bring along a few bucks and donate to UNICEF's Philippines Relief fund. All proceeds from the show will be donated directly to the charity! So take a break from the studying and endless papers and project piles and treat yourself to some holiday cheer!

We want to thank you all again for your hard work and dedication this semester. Congratulations on another semester for the books. We hope you had a lot of fun, gained some fond memories, and some new friends. We are so unbelievably proud of you all. Here’s to Happy Holiday for all and another great semester to come!

            Good luck with finals!

GM 2 RECAP: PITCHES, DEADLINES, IMPORTANT DATES & INFO

Was Stage Troupe Sunday just too much for you to handle? Did the theatre packed weekend tire you out? Did the sudden change to fall and midterm season keep you from the Student Theater Sunday evening for our second GM? No? Well, either way- we’ve got you covered! If you missed the meeting or it was too much information for you to remember, here’s a recap of all the INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT things coming up. Pay attention and take note of these dates because they will sneak up on us and be here before we know it!

Before we go any further, congrats to COMBAT and everyone who participated! It was super successful, especially with the new tech addition, and we hope everyone had a marvelous time.

Also, yay to TECHSTRAVAGANZA! We’d like to thank everyone who came out and participated in our new take on workshops this semester. We hope you enjoyed it and that you were able to learn by doing! And lastly, CONGRATS to our Fall 2013 season- casts and tech! We are so unbelievably excited to get started and cannot wait to see how beautifully this season unfolds.

Speaking of seasons…. It’s nearly time to pick our next one. Crazy right? But nevertheless, the time has come.

****PITCHES****

Have you always wanted to direct? Never done it before? Done it a million times? Want experience? Have a show you want to see Troupe do? We have so many opportunities available if you want to direct/pitch a show! It’s a ton of info, but keep reading… it ‘s all really helpful and IMPORTANT!

If you want to pitch a show for next semester (or for ONE ACTS!), here’s what you need to know!

You NEED to:

- Be a dues paying member ($5) - Have a show you know and want to pitch - Make sure the rights are available - Get the script, make 2 copies - Download and fill out the pitch form from the website (http://bustagetroupe.com/members/forms-and-resources/) - Put all of that (the scripts and the form) into a manila envelope and bring it to 111 Cummington Mall labeled with “Stage Troupe” and this address:

ATTN: Eric Jacobsen 111 Cummington Mall Rm B17

**PITCHES ARE DUE BY 3PM ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30TH** NO EXCEPTIONS!

*If you are pitching a musical, you must contact Eric (jacobsen@bu.edu) in a timely manner so that he can check for the rights to the show. If you are pitching a play, you will need to check for the rights on your own (try findaplay.com or dramatists or various other play sites).

For the most part, the pitch process is the same. However, pitch forms have been updated to reflect a better emphasis on budget and financial aspects and the pitch process (they can still be found in the same place, under the same link), in terms of the actual pitch meeting, has been altered slightly. Each director has 6 minutes to say their piece. That is it. By the end of those 6 minutes, the membership should have all the information that they need to make their decisions. Directors cannot say ask me about tech. Following pitches, there will be those pitching will have a brief  amount of time to address reading committee concerns and then questions for ALL will follow at the end.

If you have any questions about the pitching process, please contact stage@bu.edu and we’ll help you out. The Pitching Meeting is the next GM, SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10TH at 7PM. The pitches will be pitched and the membership shall vote and find out the next season that night! Yay, democracy!

If you would like to be on READING COMMITTEE for the pitches (you CANNOT do this if you are pitching), then please email our VPSP, Lauren, at kolodkin@bu.edu.

Pitches for ONE ACTS work the same as mainstage pitches and are due the same day, so don’t forget! One Acts are the perfect way to try directing for the first time or to even see your own work on stage. We welcome all kinds of pitches- so write your own show, pick a short play, try something new and get your start in directing! ONE ACTS will be December 6th & 7th

Pitches for CHARITY SHOW work just a little bit differently. You still have to submit the scripts and the Charity Show form (found on the same page!), but the membership will not be voting on this pitch, the VPSP and Eboard will select the Charity Show for next semester. You will need to select a charity to pair with your show, and you get a chance to explain why you want to the show and why it fits with your chosen charity. Note that if your show is not chosen for Charity Show, you can pitch it as a mainstage. Also, some food for thought from your Eboard- We are looking for a very minimal, black box style show. Recently, Charity Show has been operating very much like a mainstage with a full set, costumes, and the like. This year, we would like to switch it up a bit and kick our giving back to charity into high gear. We are looking for a show that requires little from tech and in the way of budget so we can increase our returns to our community!

****UPCOMING SPECIAL PROJECTS****

KICKBALL vs. On Broadway is coming up this weekend!

On SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5TH at 12PM we shall battle OB and take back the title!

Meet in the Space at 11AM to prep with TEAM STAGE TROUPE, then we’ll go to the Boston Common and play our fellow theatre lovers in a match of SKILL (Help that) and  (mostly cheering with) ENTHUSIASM!

You should also wear your Stage Troupe T-Shirt if you have one so that our team is easy to identify!! If you want a T-Shirt, bring $15 to the Space on Sunday before the game and you can get one! They’re super soft, and also prettyyyy cool looking. YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT.

P.S. Hanna will also be collecting dues! PLEASE PAY YOUR DUES for those who have not already. Hanna knows who you are, you know who you are. Just do it so this isn’t awkward(:

ASSASSINS!

Lauren has started taking sign-ups for our “friendly” annual game of Assassins! Let her know if you would like to throw your name in the ring and remember that it is $2 to play.

***WORKSHOPS***

Our Treasurer, Hanna, will also be hosting a Photoshop Workshop- Friday, October 4 at 5PM. Come learn how to use this adobe program and take advantage of yet another opportunity hang out with your fellow Troupies!

***VOLUNTEER & MORE THEATRE OPPORTUNITIES***

We were fortunate to be joined by a guest speaker at this GM. Tré Pina, the Program Manager for Children's Theatre of the CSC spoke about a really awesome and unique opportunity for those of us with a passion for theatre to get involved with our fellow BU arts community to give back to the community at large. Children’s Theatre began in 1991 and was the CSC’s first creative arts program. Volunteers brainstorm, write, and produce their own original skits in a troupe of 10 students. After the shows are prepared and rehearsed, volunteers perform their creations for children in various hospitals, community centers, after school programs, and domestic abuse shelters throughout Boston. CT brings inspiration and entertainment to children who don’t generally have access to arts education. Time commitment is about two hours each Thursday night (8pm-10pm) for most of the semester for a program-wide meeting and troupe rehearsal. Toward the end of the semester, meetings are replaced by site visits where volunteers perform their skit and conduct informal theatre workshops that include improv games and cheers. If anyone is interested they can email Tré at ct@bu.edu, or go to CT's webpage to download the application! The application deadline is next Wednesday, and the first normal meeting is Thursday.

Lastly, a few logistics. We are still working on settling our e-mail situation. Many apologies for the inconvenience, but don’t worry if you aren’t receiving Troupe e-mails- no one is): Keep checking the website (bustagetroupe.com) and our other platforms for updates and important info!

GM RECAP: The New TA! BUSTies! Constitutional Amendments!

At last we've reached the final GM Recap. It has been a year of incredible shows and events for Stage Troupe and we're so sad to see its end, but the future is already here and if we can't keep moving forward, where do we go?
If you missed the GM, shame on you, but fear not. I have what you need right here.
Let's get to the recap.
Congratulations to Closer, The Tragedy of Hamlet, and our One Act & Monologue Festival for their fantastic productions!
*****Constitutional Amendments*****

We have voted through some new constitutional amendments. The constitution will be updated and re-uploaded to the website for everyone's perusal.

All changes will be in place at the change of the board, which is graduation day in May! Get ready for the new year, Troupies!

****The New TA****

The future Eboard is now and officially COMPLETE. Congratulations to Marissa Cheifetz, our new Technical Advisor!

Steady on, new Eboard. You're going to be fantastic.
****Summer Show Auditions & Info****
Our Summer Show, The Birthday Party, will be holding auditions on THURSDAY & FRIDAY in the Student Theater from 6-9PM.
If you are interested in teching for Summer Show, send Andrew an email detailing your top three choices for department and your experience after the cast list goes up Friday night. smithand@bu.edu.
Here's more information about the show from Marcus! Remember, he's still looking for an assistant director so email him if you're interested. darcus@bu.edu
In the quiet and simply English seaside boardinghouse of Petey and Meg Boles, it is longtime resident Stanley Webber's birthday and everyone seems to know but him. Harold Pinter's The Birthday Party is an darkly absurd and witty play about one man's resistance against subjugation in his fading existence. In the random assortment of strangers, party games, and corn flakes, Pinter explores the ambiguous relationship we all have with truth and reality. This is the play most examined and celebrated in Pinter's deeply complex and provocative cannon. a play of contemporary excellence and relentless investigation to prove human nature stands as the only law that rules us.
Mandatory Show Dates: June 12, 19, 26. July 10, 17. Revival in early September
Should there be an issue yet your desires to audition are unyielding, circumstances can be discussed at auditions freely. Please come!
6 parts, 4m, 2f.
Meg, woman in her sixties, a pleasant hostess, insistently compassionate and largely aloof, her life is cushioned in delusion.
Petey, man in his sixties, Meg's husband and a faithful deck chair attendant on the nearby beaches; he is surprisingly the more astute observer of the plot.
Stanley, man in his late thirties, the only guest at the boardinghouse, unkempt, lazy and smug as everyone else celebrates his special day.
Goldberg, man in his fifties, one of the men that arrives later in the day, suave, poetic, and clearly dangerous as he and his partner work to take Stanley away.
McCann, a man of thirty, an Irish man that arrives with Goldberg, not as socially fluent and engaging, more of a brute.
Lulu, girl in her twenties, a bright personality in contrast to the dry and masculine weight of the play; childish, flirtatious, and fickle.
TECH
SET
The drawing room and kitchen of an English seaside boardinghouse. Furnished with a dining table, chairs, a reading chair or loveseat, floor rugs, side tables and boards, lamps, a room that looks extremely lived in, worn away from use and overuse. Strongly realistic in design, creative and abstract in decor that speaks to the aesthetics of delusion and menace.
COSTUMES
Simple and straightforward, with minimal costume changes as the events happen in only twenty-four hours. The looks of each character speaks to the person that they want people to see them, the dishonesty of appearance.
LIGHTS
The transgression of one day and the following morning, the bleak English weather, and a couple scripted blackouts are the only requirements allotted for lights, the rest is fun.
SOUND
No scripted cues, endless opportunities.
PROPS
Working with Set to fill the room with things here and there, a couple key props that need to be destroyed in the performance, i.e. a toy drum that gets stepped through, glasses that get crushed.
HAIR/MAKE-UP
Realistic, simple and fresh.
****BUSTies****

Come attend an awesome night of awards and celebrate one incredible year of  theatre with us as we honor our seniors and enjoy each other's company (and some excellent desserts!). Dress in cocktail attire!

BUSTies is $5 to attend, so if you haven't paid Allie yet, she, Hanna, Lauren, and Celia will be holding office hours to pay for BUSTies this week. Look out on the FB group and the blog for where/when to find them. Allie will be in the GSU on Monday from 3-5 and Tuesday from 5-6. Pay her!

You definitely don't want to miss out on such a fun evening. It's BUSTies. Just go to it.
That's all, my dears. You'll be hearing from me just a few more times this week before the end.

GM RECAP: The New Eboard//One Act & Monologue Tech List

It is the beginning of the end, you faithful, wonderful membership. My days emailing you are indeed numbered. If you missed the GM, shame on you, but fear not. Troupe's leaders of tomorrow (tomorrow...tomorrow...tomorrow...) have been chosen, and you are in capable hands, my dear membership.

Let's get to the recap.

Congratulations to Or, and Election Day for their fantastic productions!

*****The NEW EBOARD*****

President: Ilana Berman Vice President: Emily Jo McKnight Vice President of Special Projects: Lauren Kolodkin Treasurer: Hanna Wasserman Secretary: Cilicia Rios

Congratulations, baby board. The future is yours.

BUT WAIT. The board is missing one incredibly important member. The TA of Stage Troupe is not an elected position, but one to be applied for! If you think you have the right technical sense for Troupe and you want to be on the executive board, fill out an application (found on the website under Members > Forms and Resources, TA Application) and send it to our new VP Emily Jo McKnight at ejmck626@gmail.com.

The Eboard is NOT COMPLETE without the TA, so if you've a passion for Troupe and an understanding of tech, consider applying. The membership is counting on YOU.

Don't forget, if you're nominated, we encourage you to come and talk to our current Eboard! There's no better resource than those of us doing the jobs and we obviously love Troupe enough to talk about it forever, so don't be shy!

*****COMING UP**** Our Charity Show Or, opens this week!

Tickets will be sold at the Activities Information Desk in the GSU for $5. Come to the show Thursday, Friday, or Saturday at 8PM in the Student Theater. All proceeds will go to Americans for the Arts, so come out and see a wonderful show and support something we all love--the arts!

SECOND GM RECAP -- PITCH INFO & UPCOMING EVENTS!

Was there a Nemo-nic blast from the icy north that hindered your passage to the Student Theater? Did the soporific cocoon you inhabited for the 48 hours of the storm swell up and take you whole? Hello, can you hear me?
Regardless, if you missed the meeting I've got a lovely little recap of all of the utterly IMPORTANT things coming up this month. Pay close attention, my dear membership, and keep these events and deadlines in mind.
First of all, congratulations to our casts and crews! We're so excited that things are already underway and we are fast approaching our first show of the season.
****PITCHES--DEADLINES AND HELPFUL INFO****

Interested in directing? Never done it before? Done it a million times? Want experience? Have a show you want to see Troupe do?

We have so many opportunities available if you want to direct/pitch a show! There's a lot of information here, my dear membership, so CONSTANT VIGILANCE.

If you want to pitch a show for next semester (or for ONE ACTS!), here's what you need to know!

- Be a dues paying member ($5) - Have a show you know and want to pitch - Make sure the rights are available - Get the script, make 2 copies - Download and fill out the pitch form from the website (http://bustagetroupe.com/members/forms-and-resources/) - Put all of that (the scripts and the form) into a manila envelope and bring it to 111 Cummington Mall labeled with "Stage Troupe" and this address:

ATTN: Eric Jacobsen 111 Cummington Mall Rm B17

**PITCHES ARE DUE BY 3PM ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19TH**

(This is incredibly soon, so please please please if you're thinking at all of pitching and want help getting started, contact the board! We're here to help)
If you have any questions about the pitching process, please contact stage@bu.edu and we'll help you out. The Pitching Meeting is the next GM in two weeks, SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 24TH at 7PM in the STUDENT THEATER. The pitches will be pitched and the membership shall vote and find out the next season that same day! Yay, democracy!

If you would like to be on READING COMMITTEE for the pitches (you CANNOT do this if you are pitching), then please email Lauren at kolodkin@bu.edu.

Pitches for ONE ACTS work the same as mainstage pitches and are due the same day, so don't forget! One Acts are the perfect way to try directing for the first time or to even see your own work on stage (we encourage student-written productions!).

ONE ACTS AUDITIONS are March 4th & 5th ONE ACTS will go up on April 26th & 27th

Pitches for PARENTS WEEKEND work just a little bit differently. You still have to submit the scripts and the Parents Weekend form (found on the same page!), but the membership will not be voting on this pitch, the Eboard will select the Parents Weekend Show for next semester and announce it at the next meeting.

****HOSTS/SM for BUSTIES****
We are looking for hosts for BUSTies! If you want a chance to take control of the greatest award show ever (mostly due to the fact it gets more candid than Jodie Foster at the Golden Globes), then email Lauren at kolodkin@bu.edu. You'll get a chance to pitch your BUSTies ideas at our next Eboard meeting (February 17th at 6pm in IT).

****RUNNING FOR EBOARD****
This year's board's term comes to an end in May! Sadly, this means many of us have to leave you, BUT this also means that you all get a chance to run to be a part of Stage Troupe's Eboard next year! If you have a million and one ideas to improve the group or you think you can provide a sane voice, come to an Eboard meeting (they're every Sunday at 6pm in IT at 111 Cummington!) and check out what we do. If you're interested in specific positions, come talk to us! We'd love to have a chat about our jobs. If you have general questions, just email stage@bu.edu!
Eboard nominations will occur at our next GM (February 24th). Don't miss out.
****TECH SHOW! TA EVENT!****
You definitely don't want to miss out on a weekend of pure Troupe tradition coming up.
First, we have the TECH SHOW both at 8PM and later at MIDNIGHT this Friday, February 15th in the Student Theater.
Come support the techies and find out the secret on opening night! Tech Show is a fun opportunity we do every spring where everyone can try something new! The midnight show is a special performance, so come prepared for a fantastic time! Best way to do it (I highly recommend...) is to double-feature it. Watch it once at 8, chill, then come back and see it again! You'll laugh, you'll laugh again, and it'll be an awesome night. Do it. It's free.
Then, on Saturday, February 16th at 8pm we have Andrew's All-American Axe-Stravaganza: A Charity Event for Charity in the Student Theater.
Our TA Event/Charity Fundraiser is a night filled with skits and a sneak preview of Or, and auctions and cakes and pieing of the Eboard and all sorts of merriment. There will be a "most patriotic" dress contest, so wear some red, white & blue and come out to enjoy a Troupe night and support the Charity Show. It's $5 to attend, and bringing lots of extra cash is DEFINITELY encouraged as there will be opportunities to bid on a plethora of fabulous items...including dinner with Dean Elmore, giftcards to awesome places, and the last of our tickets to BOOK OF MORMON!
*********
That's all for now, folks! We've got lots of deadlines coming up so keep alert and don't be afraid to ask questions. The website is a great, quick resource (bustagetroupe.com), otherwise, follow @StageTroupe on Twitter and join the Facebook group, and don't forget you can always email stage@bu.edu.
Don't forget to come out to our events this weekend! See you there!
We have our next GM coming up very quickly on February 24th 7pm in the Student Theater.
