We are always awed by the work that you do membership, we hope that you had fun and are as proud of this spring season as we are.

Troupe needs a videographer!

Our wonderful videographer has done a great job of recording Troupe history this year, but he will be trading in his duties for secretarial ones next year- which means we’re looking for someone to fill his shoes! This position is completely voluntary, but is a great way to take on a little more responsibility and get further involved in Troupe! If you are interested or have any questions, feel free to email Kyle at kptague@bu.edu.

Welllll, that’s all for now. Have a great weekend! Enjoy the celebration today, but stay smart and safe! See you all soon!

Flash Back to the 80s with Troupe- Twelfth Night Opens Tonight!

Good Evening Troupe and beyond!

Image

Well, it’s a new week, and that means it’s time for a new show! So journey  along with Stage Troupe as we go back in time to the 1980s for a totally fantastic time and a really rad show because

William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Or What You will opens tonight!

Twelfth Night, or What You Will is one of Shakespeare’s most delightfully topsy-turvy comedies about mixed identities, shipwrecks, love triangles, and some serious tom-foolery. The story starts when Viola and Sebastien, twin brother and sister, are beached on the foreign land of Illyria, each thinking the other is dead. Lost and without prospects, Viola disguises herself as a man named Cesario and begins serving the local Duke, Orsino. In love with the neighboring Lady Olivia, the Duke enlists the help of Cesario/Viola to woo her for him. Inconveniently, Olivia falls in love with Viola, who’s even more inconveniently in love with Orsino. What ensues is a complicated love triangle that’s made even more outrageous by the less than noble suitors in line to win Olivia for themselves. Add in a spunky maid, ridiculous manservant, and drunk uncle to make an interesting scene for Viola’s previously-presumed-dead twin brother to find when he enters the scene and complicates things further. Finally, after some false accusations and a few drinks, the play ends happily with three weddings and a musical number sung by none other than Feste, the fool.

Good evening Troupies and friends!

Hope you enjoyed the week off because we’ve got a whole lotta Troupe headed your way…

And first up, ROPE opens this weekend!

Made famous by Alfred Hitchock’s 1948 film adaptation, Patrick Hamilton’s Rope is a murder mystery told in reverse: the killers, their victim, and their motivations are immediately revealed to the audience. Brandon and Charlie are two undergraduates who, inspired by the musings of Friedrich Nietzsche, kill a fellow classmate for the sheer thrill of it; they feel they are intellectually superior to the feeble-minded and capable of pulling off the perfect murder. What follows is a most macabre dinner party attended by the victim’s friends and family in which the guests dine upon a chest containing the cadaver. As the night wears on, the resolve of the murderers begins to crack, and the underlying flaws in their intellect reveal their true ugliness and become their undoing. A classic suspense thriller, Rope casts a damning light on the disturbed resolve of men who feel it appropriate to kill merely for the sake of killing.

Hello Troupies!

We hope you had a fantastic and restful spring break and are ready to jump right back because this weekend is our first mainstage of the Spring 2014 Season! That’s right,

 RAISED IN CAPTIVITY OPENS TONIGHT!

It has been years since twins Sebastian and Bernadette have seen each other when they are reunited at the funeral of their mother who was killed by a projectile shower head. Bernadette tries to keep her husband, Kip, in line when he decides that life is too short to be a dentist, whereas Sebastian, who is in love with his prison pen pal, Dylan, also has to fend off Hilary, his former therapist, who is driven insane by her undying love for him. Through witty dialogue and comically beautiful tragedy, these characters attempt to break free of their inner captivity.

Doubt: A Parable

 doubt poster

It’s 1964, and Sister Aloysius, an older nun at a Catholic church and school in the Bronx, is suspicious. She notices the priest, Father Flynn, is taking a special interest in the boy Donald Muller, and asks for the help of the young and idealistic Sister James in investigating Father Flynn’s intentions. Secrets spill or come close to so doing, the boy’s mother gets involved, and all the while, there is an undeniable sense of doubt in the air…

GM 2 Recap- Pitches and Other Important Info!

Didn’t get to participate in the wonderful Troupe Sunday this past weekend, or just want to hear the information again? So many wonderful things happened and a whole lot of important information was given about the upcoming month that you don’t want to miss! So, the following is a summary of the events that occurred for your viewing pleasure:

First, we are so blown away by the amazing support you all showed this weekend. The TA Event: Marissa’s Magical Menage a Trois was a smashing success. We would like to thank all that participated in the night’s festivities, the performers, bakers, MCs,  special guests, and most of all, the wonderful patrons whose generosity and support was outstanding. We were able to raise an amazing $800 for this year’s Charity Show, Doubt: A Parable and a great cause in Prevent Child Abuse America. We could not be more thrilled.

Next, we would like to personally thank those who stepped up Sunday evening and ran for Treasurer. It is nice to see such passion for being leaders in Troupe. Furthermore, we would like to extend the warmest of welcomes to the newest member of the Executive Board, Treasurer Joe Gambino!

Love BUSTIES? Have brilliant beyond brilliant ideas of how the event should go? Come on in to Eboard on Sunday, February 16, at 6PM and “pitch” them to us!

We ask that any person or group pitching to host BUSTies consider the following things: how the event will run as a whole, including show order, theme, dress-code, and other logistical concerns; if you're a part of a group, how each member of your group will actively contribute to the process; and finally, how your sense of humor will translate to an audience with diverse opinions of their own.

We look forward to seeing you all on the 16th of February!

If you want to pitch a show for next semester (Parents’ Weekend, Mainstages, Summer Show or for ONE ACTS!), here’s what you need to know!

Pitches mean one more thing, yet another opportunity to further your involvement in Troupe! So, if you would like to be on READING COMMITTEE for the pitches (you CANNOT do this if you are pitching), then please email Lauren at kolodkin@bu.edu.

Our CALLBACKS will be occurring tomorrow night- Thursday, January 23, 2013 from 6-10PM in PSY B43 (the same room in the building/basement as auditions, on Cummington Street).  We ask that you please be prepared to stay until you are dismissed and keep an eye out for e-mails as some  individual directorial teams will be sending out separate information at their own discretion (don’t worry if you don’t get an e-mail from a director, if you are on the list you have been called back.)

LastlyPLEASE E-MAIL ANY CONFLICTS you may have with CALLBACKS to stage@bu.edu  ASAP so we can do our best to accommodate any scheduling conflicts that may arise.

FIRST SPRING GENERAL TECH MEETING

Never teched before? Want to try something new? No worries, Stage Troupe’s motto is “learning by doing,” and you can do anything here! This meeting is for anyone interested in holding a tech position this season! The directors will give more specifics about what they’re looking for and you can find out about the different departments from our TA! RSVP with the Facebook Event! There is a $5 membership fee to tech for Troupe, dues will be collected at this meeting.

Speaking of tech…

TECHSTRAVAGANZA is BACK!

February 1, 2014

Noon at the Student Theater

A fresh take on tech workshops, Techstravaganza is a full day of learning your tech positions by doing them. So come on out, learn something new, and hang out with your fellow Troupies!

Now, contrary to popular belief, acting and tech aren’t all we have to offer you this semester. We also have a ton of awesome UPCOMING SPECIAL PROJECTS!

TA EVENT: MARISSA’S MAGICAL MENAGE A TROIS

February 8,2014

8PM in the Student Theater

The TA Event is our annual fundraiser for our Charity Show and this year’s charity Prevent Child Abuse America. Join us  for some laughs and a wonderful time- see a skit performed by the Eboard, compete in a cake-making contest, pie the Eboard, bid on a variety of items,  and witness a few special performances from our incredibly talented membership! There is a $5 entrance fee, further donations are greatly appreciated.

TECH SHOW

February 14 &15, 2014

8PM (and midnight on 2/14) at the Student Theater

“Where the techies act, the actors tech, and the audience remains the same.”

‘Tis the season for everyone’s favorite special project! Join us for a performace of an adaptation of a classic movie (kept a secret until the show, as per tradition) with a little Stage Troupe flair that’s sure to never disappoint!

ASSASSINS

Just a reminder to be smart and responsible, be safe, and have fun! The games have begun folks.

May the odds be ever in your favor.

BUSTies

Now, the most wonderful time of the year, BUSTies season, is still a ways away. BUT we need hosts!

If you’re interested in hosting BUSTies, please come to Eboard on January 26 at 6PM prepared with a theme, some jokes, and a plan to “audition”.

**If you have an questions about any special projects, would like to host, perform, or donate items for auction for our TA Event, or  would like to host BUSTies, please contact our VPSP Lauren at kolodkin@bu.edu for further details or questions!**

Stage Troupe’s Library is now open!

If you’re looking to expand your theatre knowledge or pitch a show next semester, Troupe now has a library for you to browse and check things out! Or, if you have a bunch of plays laying around and would like to donate to place where they will be loved, Troupe’s library is definitely an option! For further details or to check out or donate works, please contact our President, Ilana at iberman@bu.edu  or VP, Emily at ejmck@bu.edu.

Lastly, it is with a heavy heart that we must report the unfortunate resignation of our beloved Treasurer. Due to uncontrollable circumstances, Hanna will not be able to continue in her position with us this Spring, which means an opportunity has opened up for one of you, our wonderful membership, to step up! Hanna will be with us in the interim and available for guidance for the incoming Treasurer, so have no fear. Nominations and elections for Treasurer will take place simultaneously at our Second GM on February 9, 2014 at 7PM. If you are interested and have any questions about the situation or the duties of the Treasurer, please don’t hesitate to contact Hanna at hwass@bu.edu.

You made it! The first recap is always the longest, so congratulations and thanks for reading.

Don’t forget to like us on Facebook, join the Group, and follow us on Twitter if you don’t already and check the website and blog at bustagetroupe.com for all further updates!

See you all soon!
