TROUPE UPDATES: opening up pitches for spring, next GM

Hiya membership! We've got some updates and info for you before the Thanksgiving break rolls around!
The next GM will be Sunday, December 9th at 7PM in the Student Theater.
***SPRING SEASON***
We have some unfortunate news. The rights to Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf are currently unavailable and it is unknown when Dramatists will make a call on whether we can acquire them. Due to this, we are opening up our Spring Mainstage Pitch Process to the membership again in order to secure our next season. If by December 9th the rights become available, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf will be a part of our spring 2013 season. If the rights are not available, then those who’ve submitted pitches by the new due date will be pitching at the December 9th General Meeting and the membership will vote again.
PITCHES (new and re-submissions) ARE DUE BY WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 5TH at 3PM.
This means that if you are re-submitting a pitch, we need you to send in your pitch form again (the scripts are not necessary). If you are pitching anew, please submit the form (found here) and two copies of the script in an envelope to 111 Cummington Mall labeled with "Stage Troupe" and this address:
ATTN: Eric Jacobsen

*Please make sure that the rights to your show are available during the month of April.
*Also please contact Lauren (kolodkin@bu.edu) if you are interested in being on READING COMMITTEE!

DON'T MISS MR. MARMALADE THIS WEEKEND

Greetings membership. It's already time for our third main stage of the season! Stage Troupe is proud to present... MR. MARMALADE

Written by Noah Haidle

Directed by Sam Hoffman Assistant Directed by Ryan Chernin Technically Directed by Marissa Cheifetz Produced by Kelsey Gold

Deep in the deranged mind of a four year-old girl named Lucy, Mr. Marmalade sits down for some Darjeeling Oolong tea wearing a sleek, black suit and carrying a leather brief case. This imaginary creation, developed from the neglect of a single, working mother and a self-absorbed babysitter, turns out to be an abusive, drug-addicted businessman. Lucy’s only real friend is a suicidal five year-old named Larry, who finds hope in their strange and dysfunctional friendship. Mr. Marmalade is a dark, yet hilarious, comedy about the effects of neglect on a child’s imagination, as well as what it truly means to be a friend.

2nd General Meeting RECAP - PITCHES, AUDITIONS, WORKSHOPS, RUN FOR EBOARD, KICKBALL

Did the earlier rain and chill confuse you? Were you disoriented by the sudden rays of sunshine beating into your unprotected irises? Does the smell of Autumn send calming vibes into your soul slash skeleton, leaving you immobile in your desk chair as you stare blankly into nothingness? Was that much too long a question? Either way, if you missed the meeting, here's a recap of all the INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT things coming up. Pay attention, my dear membership, and keep these dates in your minds (/encyclopedia of dates/calendars).

First off, congrats to COMBAT and everyone who participated! It was super successful and such a fun, crazy, time.

****PITCHES****

Have you always wanted to direct? Never done it before? Done it a million times? Want experience? Have a show you want to see Troupe do? We have so many opportunities available if you want to direct/pitch a show! There's a lot of information here, Troupies, so CONSTANT VIGILANCE.

If you want to pitch a show for next semester (or for ONE ACTS!), here's what you need to know!

- Be a dues paying member ($5) - Have a show you know and want to pitch - Make sure the rights are available - Get the script, make 2 copies - Download and fill out the pitch form from the website (http://bustagetroupe.com/members/forms-and-resources/) - Put all of that (the scripts and the form) into a manila envelope and bring it to 111 Cummington Mall labeled with "Stage Troupe" and this address:

ATTN: Eric Jacobsen 111 Cummington Mall Rm B17

**PITCHES ARE DUE BY 3PM ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30TH**

*If you are pitching a musical, you must contact Eric (jacobsen@bu.edu) in a timely manner so that he can check for the rights to the show. If you are pitching a play, you will need to check for the rights on your own (try findaplay.com or dramatists or various other play sites)

If you have any questions about the pitching process, please contact stage@bu.edu and we'll help you out. The Pitching Meeting is the next GM, SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH at 7PM. The pitches will be pitched and the membership shall vote and find out the next season that same day! Yay, democracy!

If you would like to be on READING COMMITTEE for the pitches (you CANNOT do this if you are pitching), then please email Lauren at kolodkin@bu.edu.

Pitches for ONE ACTS work the same as mainstage pitches and are due the same day, so don't forget! One Acts are the perfect way to try directing for the first time or to even see your own work on stage. We welcome all kinds of pitches!

ONE ACTS AUDITIONS are November 5th & 6th ONE ACTS will be December 7th & 8th

Pitches for CHARITY SHOW work just a little bit differently. You still have to submit the scripts and the Charity Show form (found on the same page!), but the membership will not be voting on this pitch, the VPSP and Eboard will select the Charity Show for next semester. You will need to select a charity to pair with your show, and you get a chance to explain why you want to the show and why it fits with your chosen charity.

****AUDITIONS****

Julie, the director for Picasso at the Lapin Agile will be holding another round of auditions for the role of Elvis! If you are not already cast in the season or if you missed out the first time, then come and audition for the role! She welcomes both male and female auditioners, just be sure to have paid your membership dues (or be ready to pay at auditions). Come with your BEST ELVIS IMPRESSION!

Auditions will be held this week:

Tuesday, October 2 from 6-10 in CAS 203 Wednesday, October 3 from 6-10 in CAS 221

****WORKSHOPS****

Many workshops will be held in the next couple of weeks! Here's the rundown. Anyone can attend whatever workshop they want, but those assigned to a specific department are strongly encouraged to attend that workshop! These are being held by some of Troupe's most experienced members, and they are all so excited to pass their knowledge on! Come and have a good time with all of them~ Learning by doing. This is what we do.

Tuesday, October 2nd Set Design 7-8PM (The Space) Set Decoration 8-9PM (The Space)

Thursday, October 4th Stage Management 5:30-6:30PM (GSU Ziskind) Lights 6:30-7:30PM (Student Theater) Sound 8-8:30PM (Student Theater)

Tuesday, October 9th Producing 7-8PM (The Space)

****RUN FOR EBOARD****

Unfortunately, our VP is unable to complete her term with us, which means her position needs to be filled! We will be holding nominations AND elections for the new Vice President of Stage Troupe at our NEXT GM (November 4th). This allows the new elect time to learn the position with our current board while Kelsey is still here to teach, and whoever our new VP is will be ready to go for next semester.

If you want to run for the position, you MUST attend the GM. Someone will need to nominate you, you will give a short speech to the membership, and the position will be voted at the same meeting.

Any questions about the position or running for Eboard, direct them to stage@bu.edu!

****KICKBALL****

Finally, we have KICKBALL vs. OnBroadway coming up on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7TH at 11AM

Meet in the Space at 10:30AM to prep with TEAM STAGE TROUPE, then we'll go to the Boston Common and play our fellow theatre lovers in a match of SKILL and JOY.

You should also wear your Stage Troupe T-Shirt if you have one so that our team is easy to identify!! If you want a T-Shirt, bring $15 to any of our Workshops or to the Space on Sunday before the game and you can get one! They're super stylish and comfy and you know you want one, so don't lie to yourself.

Phewwwww, that was a long one! Thanks for sticking with it. Don't forget about our upcoming AMAZING PRODUCTIONS as well!

THE NEXT GM is SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH at 7PM

Multigroup COMBAT Fall 2012

What is Multigroup Combat, you ask? Combat is Stage Troupe's Annual 24-hour Theatre Festival! This year, Troupe is teaming up with three other groups on campus-- On Broadway, Wandering Minds, and Liquid Fun-- to put on four special short performances for your entertainment. Each group will have exactly twelve hours to write their show and twelve hours to make that show into a reality.

There are three rules:

1. Groups may not begin writing their show until 8 PM on Friday, September 28th. They must be ready to deliver their shows to whoever will be performing at 8 AM the following morning. The group of performers must be ready to rehearse with tech at 6 PM and perform for a REAL LIVE AUDIENCE by 8 PM that day.

2. Each show must include a pre-determined prop, line, and theme-- all of which will be kept secret UNTIL 8 PM ON FRIDAY. In each group, whoever is writing the show will meet me in the GSU Link at 8 to receive the secret elements, regroup, and head off to write their awesome shows!

3. Other than those first two rules, ANYTHING GOES. Keep in mind that tech will be limited, but... beyond that... the sky is the limit in terms of creativity.

Troupies, we will be doing our usual thang and splitting into two teams: a WRITERS team and an ACTORS team! The WRITERS will meet me, along with the rest of the groups, in the Link at 8 PM to get started. You guys will deliver your script(s) to the actors at 8 AM the following morning.

The ACTORS will meet in the lobby of Tsai Auditorium at 8 AM to get started on the show. I know, I know, 8 AM is early for a Saturday-- but I promise the payoff is totally worth it. This year's Troupe show will be directed/gently guided by Ms. Celia Gibson.

IF YOU WANT TO TECH, contact our wonderful Tech Advisor, Mr. Andrew Smith at smithand@bu.edu. IF YOU JUST WANT TO WATCH, show up to the Student Theatre at 8 PM.

TL;DR-- 24 hour theatre. Write, produce, and perform a show in one weekend.

- VPSP, Lauren Kolodkin

Summer Show REVIVAL!

Did you miss something? Could it perhaps be that you missed the promise of a trip into the depths of an existential hell? To a dim, black and white room set all in angles? That's too bad, but fortunately the devil is kind and...

YOU HAVE ONE MORE CHANCE.

That's right, we are reviving our summer show, No Exit! If you missed out because you were climbing mountains in Bolivia or spelunking in Switzerland, you're super-crazy-whoa lucky because you still get to see it!

No Exit Written by Jean-Paul Sartre Directed by Chris Hamilton Technically Directed by Marissa Cheifetz

Two women and one man are locked up together for eternity in one hideous room in hell. The windows are bricked up; there are no mirrors; the electric lights can never be turned off; and there is no exit. The irony of this hell is that its torture is not of the rack and fire, but of the burning humiliation of each soul as it is stripped of its pretenses by the cruel curiosity of the damned. Here the soul is shorn of secrecy, and even the blackest deeds are mercilessly exposed to the fierce light of hell. It is an eternal torment.

The revival performance will be on Friday, September 7th at 8PM in the Student Theater, and best of all—it's free! Come watch the show and all the hard work the summer cast and crew have put into it. See your friends and catch up with your fellow Troupies all while supporting a ~fantastic production! You DO NOT want to miss out.

If you’ve been brushing up your photoshop skills and polishing off your brand new TI89 (there are probably newer models out, but I’m a COM kid and forgot what calculators do), then email Allie at alliero@bu.edu to let her know you’re interested!

More information about these positions can be found around the website. We are especially looking to fill our Parents’ Weekend show, but interest in the rest of the season would be fantastic!

That’s all for now. Mark your calendars for our first general meeting of the year on Sunday, September 9th. You’ll be hearing from me again later this summer!

Have a wonderful sun-season. You may now return to your regularly scheduled heatstroke and/or torrential downpour.
