GM #2 Recap

🎃~October Intensifies~🎃

Hope you've started planning your costumes.

Thanks a bunch to everyone who came out to our Second General Meeting last night! You're one step closer to dominating in Assassins next spring. For those who weren't there, no worries! All the information is wrapped up with a nice bow in this email, so read on. 🎀

Constitutional Amendment
We took a vote last night to amend a clause in Article 9 of the Stage Troupe Constitution. The text is below with the new wording in bold:

Mainstage Shows: This is our most common form of show, produced in the Student Theater at Agganis Arena with a modest budget and a few days of performance. The shows are selected by the membership (see Art. 10) and only current Stage Troupe members may participate in any role, with the exception of approved Faculty and Staff involvement (See Art. 28).

Pitches for mainstage productions outside of the Student Theater at Agganis Arena require approval of the alternative venue from the Executive Board. Approval of alternative venues will be granted to pitches for which the prospective Creative Team has convinced the Executive Board of the advantages of the alternative venue, as well as the specific and prohibitive limitations that the Student Theater at Agganis Arena places on the creative vision. For alternative venues with associated costs, the Creative team must present a financially viable plan for recovering those costs. Once the venue is approved, the Creative Team will be permitted to pitch the show with the alternative venue, according to the process outlined in Article 10.

As we said in the meeting last night, we've received interest from the membership to be able to pitch a show in alternative venues and we wanted to open up the possibility (and clarify the wording of the article). Prospective directors will only need to get the alternative venue approved by the Executive Board-- the membership still decides the season. If you have any questions about this amendment, you are encouraged to come to E-Board and/or email stage@bu.edu!

One Acts Pitches
Pitches for One Acts are due by 6 PM on October 27 to VPSP Abby at abbyk@bu.edu. The pitch form can be found on the Forms and Resources page of the website under "One Act/Short Play." Pitching a One Act is a great chance to practice your directing chops before trying out a main stage! We are also in need of a director for the monologues and musical numbers portion of One Acts, so please also abbyk@bu.edu if you are interested in that.

We ask that the rights for any One Act you pitch cost less than $50 a performance. If you have any questions about finding the price, you can email our Treasurer, Andy at moellera@bu.edu and he will help you out. You are also welcome and encouraged to pitch an original play! Even if you have just the basic idea, you can email that to Abby by the deadline to be considered.

In order for the show to go up, we also need producers and a technical director! Email moellera@bu.edu if you are interested in producing or crf18@bu.edu if you are interested in technical direction!

Stay tuned for information about auditions!

Spring Semester Pitches
It's time to start planning our spring season! To pitch a show for the spring, fill out a pitch form (also located on the Forms & Resources page of the website). In addition to the questions on the form, the E-Board also asks that you note two things:
1.  Acknowledge that you would be willing to come to E-Board meetings every week during your stint as a director.
2. If you are interested in taking on an assistant director, please write down what you would like the assistant director's role in the process to be.

Put the form and two copies of the script in an envelope marked "Attn: Eric Jacobsen" and bring it to 111 Cummington Mall, Room B17 by 4 PM on November 2. Please also email the form and a copy of the script to stage@bu.edu.

The pitches will be presented and voted on at General Meeting #3 on November 12 at 7 PM.

Reading Committee
Reading Committee is an integral part of our show pitching process! If you would like to help shape the conversation around whether or not a pitched show would be a good fit for Stage Troupe, Reading Committee is a great way to get involved.

Please email abbyk@bu.edu if you are interested in being on the committee.

Space Cleaning
Mark your calendars now. Space Cleaning will be taking place on December 10. Every show must accumulate 40 total hours (between cast and crew) in order to qualify for BUSTies at the end of the year.

Upcoming Productions
We still have two incredible main stage productions coming up (one of them this week)!

Fall 2017 Cast Lists

Take a deep breath and scroll down. Come back up here when you're done.

Did you get cast? Congrats!! Your director will be in touch soon. But it doesn't have to stop there-- you can also tech and produce. Learn more about that below!

Didn't get cast this time? We're really sorry, we know this sucks and is a super hard thing to process, but just know that this doesn't reflect your talents as an actor at all. We were blown away by the high turnout and amazing talent we saw. The directors had some very difficult decisions to make.

We would still love for you to get involved with Stage Troupe and there are a myriad of ways to do that! Our first tech meeting is this Saturday, September 16 at 4 PM in The Space. Tech is a fantastic way to dive into Troupe. Our motto is "learning by doing," so absolutely no experience is necessary. That goes for producing as well! If you have any interest in Photoshop, budgeting, marketing, or poster design, producing may be your specialty.

Tech and producing forms can be found on the Forms and Resources page of this website. They are due by September 19 via email. Send your tech forms and questions to our Technical Advisor, Caitlin, at crf18@bu.edu. She pinky promises to be super nice and teach you anything you need to know. So does Andy, our Treasurer, for producing (send your producing forms to him at moellera@bu.edu).

There will be more acting opportunities throughout the semester! Stay tuned for news about COMBAT and One Acts.

We would still love to have you. Our fall tech meeting is this Saturday, September 16 at 4:00 PM in The Space. We always need people for tech crews and it's a really fun way to meet new people and discover talents you may not even know you have. No experience is required to be on a tech crew! Tech forms are available on the Forms and Resources page of this website and may be emailed to crf18@bu.edu or stage@bu.edu by September 19.

If you're more interested in advertising, poster design or marketing, then producing may be your thing! Producing applications can also be found on the Forms and Resources page. They are due by September 19 to moellera@bu.edu. Feel free to send along any questions you may have about producing as well.

GM #1 Recap

🎭 Hello! 🎭

For those of you who came to the General Meeting tonight, it was lovely seeing both new and familiar faces excited about Stage Troupe! If you weren't there, no worries-- here's a rundown of everything we covered at the meeting. Whether you were there or not (we know we threw a lot of information at you), if you still have questions after reading this email, you can always email stage@bu.edu.

Fall 2017 Season
We are very excited about our three main stage shows this season:

Grease
October 13-15
Directed by Ellie Lavelle

Speech and Debate
October 26-28
Directed by Sarah Sosland

The Flick
November 9-11
Directed by Lucy Gamades

Auditions
You've probably heard the auditions spiel a few times by now, but here it is one more time for good measure. Auditions will be held on the following days:
Monday, September 11 from 6-10PM in CAS 224
Tuesday, September 12 from
6:30-10PM in CAS 522
Wednesday, September 13 from 6-10PM in CAS 224

You only need to come on one of the days and you may arrive any time between 6 (or 6:30) and 10.

Auditions for Speech and Debate and The Flick will consist of cold readings, so no need to prepare anything. If you'd like to audition for Grease, you should prepare 16-32 bars of a song that best shows off your voice, to be sung acapella.

In order to audition you must pay dues through Eventbrite here, which are $7 for the semester or $12 for the year. The only thing you need to bring is a filled out audition form for each show you want to audition for, which you can find here. You may audition for as many or as few shows as you like.

Callbacks will be held that Thursday, 9/14 from 5-10 PM in CAS 522. If you are called back, you will be expected to stay the whole time (though you may not have to). If you have conflicts, you should email them to stage@bu.edu.

The callbacks list and cast lists will be posted on our website here. The link to the lists will be tweeted and posted in the Facebook group as well.

Tech Meeting
Interested in tech? Whether you're an expert costume designer, experienced builder, or have never touched a drill before, this meeting is for you. The first tech GM will be held on Saturday, September 16 at 4 PM in The Space. The Space (where we keep all of our tech supplies) is located at 949B Commonwealth Avenue (the entrance is in the alley behind Cane's). It's a little confusing to find the first time, so you can also meet at 3:45 at Raising Cane's and someone will walk you over.

Tech forms are open and due by September 19. If you already know what tech positions you'd be interested in, you can email those forms to our Technical Advisor, Caitlin at crf18@bu.edu or stage@bu.edu. They are available on the Forms & Resources page on our website here.

If you are interested in producing, those forms are also due September 19 and can be found on the same page as the tech forms.

Special Projects
In addition to the main stages we do every semester, Stage Troupe also puts on a number of Special Projects:

Ice Cream Social-- September 23, 4:00 PM
Techstravaganza-- September 24
COMBAT-- September 29-30, 8:00 PM
Kickball with OB-- Date TBD
One Acts Festival-- December 1-2

Stay tuned for more information on each of these. If you weren't at the GM and want to know more about any of the events, feel free to email stage@bu.edu! Our VPSP is looking for a director and stage manager for COMBAT, so please email abbyk@bu.edu if you are interested.

Think that's everything! Hope to see you all this week at auditions!  You can email stage@bu.edu if you have any questions about anything.
