See Stop Kiss THIS WEEKEND

Hello membership! Our season is fast underway and Stage Troupe is proud to present our second main stage of the semester... STOP KISS

Written by Diana Son

Directed by Celia Gibson Technically Directed by Allison Crisostomo Produced by Dan Stevens

When Callie, a New York City traffic reporter promised to cat sit for Sarah, “some friend of an old friend of someone,” while she settles into her new apartment, Callie never expected the favor to grow into a deep and lasting friendship. When Sarah, a brand new Bronx school third grade teacher, moved to New York from her private Quaker school in St. Louis, she never expected a woman like Callie to stumble into her life. So, when the two share their first unexpected kiss one night on a street in the West Village, neither could imagine it would lead to a vicious attack ending with one of them in a coma. As the play jumps between small moments before and after this attack, Sarah and Callie struggle with the attraction they feel toward each other and what they must do in the wake of this unexpected disaster.

2nd General Meeting RECAP - PITCHES, AUDITIONS, WORKSHOPS, RUN FOR EBOARD, KICKBALL

Did the earlier rain and chill confuse you? Were you disoriented by the sudden rays of sunshine beating into your unprotected irises? Does the smell of Autumn send calming vibes into your soul slash skeleton, leaving you immobile in your desk chair as you stare blankly into nothingness? Was that much too long a question? Either way, if you missed the meeting, here's a recap of all the INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT things coming up. Pay attention, my dear membership, and keep these dates in your minds (/encyclopedia of dates/calendars).

First off, congrats to COMBAT and everyone who participated! It was super successful and such a fun, crazy, time.

****PITCHES****

Have you always wanted to direct? Never done it before? Done it a million times? Want experience? Have a show you want to see Troupe do? We have so many opportunities available if you want to direct/pitch a show! There's a lot of information here, Troupies, so CONSTANT VIGILANCE.

If you want to pitch a show for next semester (or for ONE ACTS!), here's what you need to know!

- Be a dues paying member ($5) - Have a show you know and want to pitch - Make sure the rights are available - Get the script, make 2 copies - Download and fill out the pitch form from the website (http://bustagetroupe.com/members/forms-and-resources/) - Put all of that (the scripts and the form) into a manila envelope and bring it to 111 Cummington Mall labeled with "Stage Troupe" and this address:

ATTN: Eric Jacobsen 111 Cummington Mall Rm B17

**PITCHES ARE DUE BY 3PM ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30TH**

*If you are pitching a musical, you must contact Eric (jacobsen@bu.edu) in a timely manner so that he can check for the rights to the show. If you are pitching a play, you will need to check for the rights on your own (try findaplay.com or dramatists or various other play sites)

If you have any questions about the pitching process, please contact stage@bu.edu and we'll help you out. The Pitching Meeting is the next GM, SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH at 7PM. The pitches will be pitched and the membership shall vote and find out the next season that same day! Yay, democracy!

If you would like to be on READING COMMITTEE for the pitches (you CANNOT do this if you are pitching), then please email Lauren at kolodkin@bu.edu.

Pitches for ONE ACTS work the same as mainstage pitches and are due the same day, so don't forget! One Acts are the perfect way to try directing for the first time or to even see your own work on stage. We welcome all kinds of pitches!

ONE ACTS AUDITIONS are November 5th & 6th ONE ACTS will be December 7th & 8th

Pitches for CHARITY SHOW work just a little bit differently. You still have to submit the scripts and the Charity Show form (found on the same page!), but the membership will not be voting on this pitch, the VPSP and Eboard will select the Charity Show for next semester. You will need to select a charity to pair with your show, and you get a chance to explain why you want to the show and why it fits with your chosen charity.

****AUDITIONS****

Julie, the director for Picasso at the Lapin Agile will be holding another round of auditions for the role of Elvis! If you are not already cast in the season or if you missed out the first time, then come and audition for the role! She welcomes both male and female auditioners, just be sure to have paid your membership dues (or be ready to pay at auditions). Come with your BEST ELVIS IMPRESSION!

Auditions will be held this week:

Tuesday, October 2 from 6-10 in CAS 203 Wednesday, October 3 from 6-10 in CAS 221

****WORKSHOPS****

Many workshops will be held in the next couple of weeks! Here's the rundown. Anyone can attend whatever workshop they want, but those assigned to a specific department are strongly encouraged to attend that workshop! These are being held by some of Troupe's most experienced members, and they are all so excited to pass their knowledge on! Come and have a good time with all of them~ Learning by doing. This is what we do.

Tuesday, October 2nd Set Design 7-8PM (The Space) Set Decoration 8-9PM (The Space)

Thursday, October 4th Stage Management 5:30-6:30PM (GSU Ziskind) Lights 6:30-7:30PM (Student Theater) Sound 8-8:30PM (Student Theater)

Sunday, October 7th Costumes 7-8PM (The Space) Hair/Make-up 8-9PM (The Space)

Tuesday, October 9th Producing 7-8PM (The Space)

****RUN FOR EBOARD****

Unfortunately, our VP is unable to complete her term with us, which means her position needs to be filled! We will be holding nominations AND elections for the new Vice President of Stage Troupe at our NEXT GM (November 4th). This allows the new elect time to learn the position with our current board while Kelsey is still here to teach, and whoever our new VP is will be ready to go for next semester.

If you want to run for the position, you MUST attend the GM. Someone will need to nominate you, you will give a short speech to the membership, and the position will be voted at the same meeting.

Any questions about the position or running for Eboard, direct them to stage@bu.edu!

****KICKBALL****

Finally, we have KICKBALL vs. OnBroadway coming up on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7TH at 11AM

Meet in the Space at 10:30AM to prep with TEAM STAGE TROUPE, then we'll go to the Boston Common and play our fellow theatre lovers in a match of SKILL and JOY.

You should also wear your Stage Troupe T-Shirt if you have one so that our team is easy to identify!! If you want a T-Shirt, bring $15 to any of our Workshops or to the Space on Sunday before the game and you can get one! They're super stylish and comfy and you know you want one, so don't lie to yourself.

Phewwwww, that was a long one! Thanks for sticking with it. Don't forget about our upcoming AMAZING PRODUCTIONS as well!

Multigroup COMBAT Fall 2012

What is Multigroup Combat, you ask? Combat is Stage Troupe's Annual 24-hour Theatre Festival! This year, Troupe is teaming up with three other groups on campus-- On Broadway, Wandering Minds, and Liquid Fun-- to put on four special short performances for your entertainment. Each group will have exactly twelve hours to write their show and twelve hours to make that show into a reality.

There are three rules:

1. Groups may not begin writing their show until 8 PM on Friday, September 28th. They must be ready to deliver their shows to whoever will be performing at 8 AM the following morning. The group of performers must be ready to rehearse with tech at 6 PM and perform for a REAL LIVE AUDIENCE by 8 PM that day.

2. Each show must include a pre-determined prop, line, and theme-- all of which will be kept secret UNTIL 8 PM ON FRIDAY. In each group, whoever is writing the show will meet me in the GSU Link at 8 to receive the secret elements, regroup, and head off to write their awesome shows!

3. Other than those first two rules, ANYTHING GOES. Keep in mind that tech will be limited, but... beyond that... the sky is the limit in terms of creativity.

Troupies, we will be doing our usual thang and splitting into two teams: a WRITERS team and an ACTORS team! The WRITERS will meet me, along with the rest of the groups, in the Link at 8 PM to get started. You guys will deliver your script(s) to the actors at 8 AM the following morning.

The ACTORS will meet in the lobby of Tsai Auditorium at 8 AM to get started on the show. I know, I know, 8 AM is early for a Saturday-- but I promise the payoff is totally worth it. This year's Troupe show will be directed/gently guided by Ms. Celia Gibson.

IF YOU WANT TO TECH, contact our wonderful Tech Advisor, Mr. Andrew Smith at smithand@bu.edu. IF YOU JUST WANT TO WATCH, show up to the Student Theatre at 8 PM.

TL;DR-- 24 hour theatre. Write, produce, and perform a show in one weekend.

- VPSP, Lauren Kolodkin
Watch the performances on Saturday, September 29th at 8pm in the Student Theater. GET THERE

Summer Show REVIVAL!

Did you miss something? Could it perhaps be that you missed the promise of a trip into the depths of an existential hell? To a dim, black and white room set all in angles? That's too bad, but fortunately the devil is kind and...

YOU HAVE ONE MORE CHANCE.

That's right, we are reviving our summer show, No Exit! If you missed out because you were climbing mountains in Bolivia or spelunking in Switzerland, you're super-crazy-whoa lucky because you still get to see it!

No Exit Written by Jean-Paul Sartre Directed by Chris Hamilton Technically Directed by Marissa Cheifetz

Two women and one man are locked up together for eternity in one hideous room in hell. The windows are bricked up; there are no mirrors; the electric lights can never be turned off; and there is no exit. The irony of this hell is that its torture is not of the rack and fire, but of the burning humiliation of each soul as it is stripped of its pretenses by the cruel curiosity of the damned. Here the soul is shorn of secrecy, and even the blackest deeds are mercilessly exposed to the fierce light of hell. It is an eternal torment.

The revival performance will be on Friday, September 7th at 8PM in the Student Theater, and best of all—it's free! Come watch the show and all the hard work the summer cast and crew have put into it. See your friends and catch up with your fellow Troupies all while supporting a ~fantastic production! You DO NOT want to miss out.

First - you have THREE more chances to see the summer show, No Exit! You really don’t want to miss this fabulous production, so book those planes and trains, wrap a bandage ‘round your feet, and clamor over the mountains to get back to Boston and see the show! ~Hoopla

Next, we’re already looking ahead to our Fall 2012 Season! It’s going to be absolutely AMAZING. Here’s a reminder of the shows/showdates:

October 19-21, 2012 Little Shop of Horrors Music by Alan Menken; Lyrics by Howard Ashman Directed by Allie Romano Assistant Director and Choreographer: Jake Delaney Musical Director: Jonathan Reed

Now, to jumpstart the season, we’re starting the search for the rest of our production heads. Read on if you have any interest in Technical Directing or Producing the fall season, and don’t forget these positions also call for assistants!

Our Technical Advisor Andrew Smith is looking for any of you tech wizards ready to head a crew of your very own. Whether you’ve TD/ATD-ed before or you’re looking to try it out, email Andrew at smithand@bu.edu and let him know you’re interested! If you’re interested in TDing Little Shop of Horrors, fill out a TD app (found here) and send it to Andrew!

Our Treasurer Allie Romano is looking for you money savvy folks ready to dole out the cash and promote the shows. More information about these positions can be found around the website. We are especially looking to fill our Parents’ Weekend show, but interest in the rest of the season would be fantastic!

Have a wonderful sun-season. You may now return to your regularly scheduled heatstroke and/or torrential downpour.

We're in hell, my pets; they never make mistakes

Yes, now's the moment. The moment we descend together into hell--there is no looking back. The earth has left you.

Performances will be held in the Student Theater located at 925 Commonwealth Avenue in the passage between Agganis Arena and FitRec on the Wednesday of each Orientation session: June 13th; June 20th; June 27; July 11th; and July 18th. The show begins at 7PM.

Best of all, ****the performance is free!**** So you really have no excuse at all not to come see the show. It has a set all in angles, vivid green and claret-colored lights, a bell that's just a bit capricious, and three people facing an eternity in hell--what more could you ask?

First, a hearty congratulations to all involved in 'The Vibrator Play' and the One Acts Festival this weekend!! They were both hysterical and wonderful and we can't imagine a better end to the semester!

Next, a HUGE congratulations is in order to our newly appointed Technical Advisor Andrew Smith! The new E-Board is now complete and we're so excited to see them do their thing in the upcoming year (although I'm not ready to give up my mailing duties just yet....)
***BUSTies***

If you were unable to vote for BUSTies and want to send in an absentee ballot, the deadline to do so is TONIGHT at midnight to Chris Hamilton at cham611@bu.edu.

Plans for the Weekend....

Did you really wanna take that cute girl on a date, but realized that your mom forgot to put money in your bank account? Did you just waste your entire paycheck on pizza and forgot to save some for a night out with friends?? ....WELL FEAR NOT!!!

This weekend do not miss the Stage Troupe Spring One Acts Festival!!!! (Otherwise known as 'He Can't Go out There because of the Blizzard as reported by the Southern Belle on the News')

I think the title pretty much says it all, but we have poor presidential imposters, creepy couples, an abundance of glass cocktail stirrers, and really bipolar newscasters. If that doesn't sound intriguing, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS.

These spectacular One Acts are:
He Can't Go Out There!- Written by Kelly Dickinson and Directed by Julie Kaminski
The Blizzard- Directed by Celia Gibson
For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls- Directed by Travis Cherry
Exposition News- Written and Directed by Joe Gambino

All performances will be held at 8pm on Friday, April 20th and Saturday, April 21st in Jacob Sleeper Auditorium. The best part about One Acts is...IT'S FREE!!! So you don't even have to worry about messing up that date night.

So come out, sit back, and enjoy the show!! You'll be sure to enjoy every minute of it!

Have you ever had this sensation?!?

"It's always Wednesday, I find. Smack in the middle of the week. With nothing to look forward to, but...."

IN THE NEXT ROOM (OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY)!!!!!
Written by Sarah Ruhl
Directed by Melissa D'Anna, Assistant Director Marissa Cheifetz
Technically Directed by Kirsten Fukayama
Produced by Chris Hamilton

Performances will be held at the Agganis Student Theater at 925Commonwealth Avenue (right in the alleyway between FitRec and theArena) on:
Thursday, April 12th at 8pm
Friday, April 13th at 8pmSaturday,
April 14th at 8pm

Tickets will be $6 for General Admission and $5 for Stage Troupe Members.

IN THE NEXT ROOM OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY takes place during the dawn of electricity, and thanks to "Benjamin Franklin and his electrical key" a new invention has been manufactured to help cure "hysteria" in women. This radical invention is know as....the VIBRATOR.

Soon women (and men) from all over are visiting the renowned scientist Dr. Givings, and are beginning to experience sensations they have never felt before. With just the flick of a switch emotions reach new heights and new life has emerged. Yet, this play isn't just about the perks of technology, it is also about love, something Thomas Edison could never invent!

This insanely hilarious production is one you must see to believe!! Get ready for the excitement and the passion and see what all the BUZZ is about!

At the THURSDAY performance, Good Vibrations will have a booth set up in the lobby of the Student Theater complete with antique vibrators and catalogs of their merchandise. ALONG WITH THAT, they will be holding a $2 raffle at intermission (you must be $18+ to enter) with prizes ranging up to $150 in cash value!!! (Maybe someone will get a nifty piece of machinery for "home use...")

For more information on this amazing store, check them out at goodvibes.com, on Facebook, or follow them on Twitter @GoodVibesToys!! And be sure to check out this show any of the other two nights as well!

"Why don't you come see me in the operating theater. The electricity is back on..."
