Show Check-Ins
Ride the Cyclone (Fall Mainstage Show)
Guin Keith (Director):
first time directing AND choreographing
enjoyed it
roles go together well
had the best CT!
campaigned for some
communication went well
iMessage and GroupMe
lesson: important to trust gut during auditions
had to recast
scheduling was difficult
hard to book rehearsal rooms
had to conduct only acting rehearsals in Warren common room
had to rehearse with no mirror, with other dance groups in the same room, etc.
SAO was to blame at some points
no more 700 Beacon
FitRec is hard to book
slow replies and long email threads
no spotlights on social media
timing near finals is hard
process was smooth
cast bonding was great
Claire Parrell (Technical Director):
pros: respect between techies and actors, CT frequent meetings
cons: lack of communication between rehearsal room and tech (Madeline being only sound person in booth)
Claire had never TD’ed a musical
used both Madeline and sound techies both
would give Zoe advice about rehearsal reports
changes in rehearsal room would be sent to techies
had actors and techies tell her that it was hard to raise concerns to CT
did not stem from specific CT members but in general across Troupe
had to reassure people that their opinions matter
tip: keep mind of tone of voice during tech week
breaks should be for CT too
TD guide should include comments about musicals
talk to OB TA
Madeleine Clinch (Music Director):
none
Sarah Valger (Assistant Director):
none
Ian Aquino (Producer):
first time producing
fun experience
went well
CT was one of best ones
felt supported
tip: start of semester, get CT veterans to give advice
unofficial tips and tricks
group chat was really helpful
important to have
overall, worked well
did good job of delegating people to specific meetings
grateful for last Troupe experience
Zoe Larrimer (Stage Manager):
really enjoyed working on Ride the Cyclone
more confident stage managing and running tech week this semester compared to last
Scheduling-wise getting actors' schedules worked to some extent although having a larger cast still resulted in scheduling being a challenge some weeks
would prefer having less rehearsals a week than we ended up having to as to not overburden actors but ultimately our cast was very flexible and did not mind too much which was lovely
In regards to the creative team we met fairly regularly as well as a few additional times for emergencies
meeting as a full group (with our TD especially) more in the beginning could be helpful to make build week and preparations slightly less stressful overall.
Guin Keith (Choreographer):
none
