Show Check-outs
A Small Family Business (Fall Mainstage Show)
Gavin Mastella (Director):
tired
very strange having process not be strange
went well – no problems
had fantastic cast and crew and CT
very interesting not having a Co-Director
lost an experienced Co-Director
no one to go to
less late night rants
issues with actors and commitments to rehearsals
got a little shaky halfway through
two actors showed up to a single rehearsal between soft off-book and hard off-book
those actors did well but should emphasize at auditions and read-through about commitment candidly
availability form is critical
get serious about it
not many things in mind – it went “extremely well”
emphasized communication between CT and cast heavily
had meetings with people
helpful for someone on cast to be in tech (thanks Viv)
put people’s wellbeing first
balance is key
be more strict! but not overbearing
cast did well with a difficult script
tech team took a conceptually difficult set and successfully did it!
have a plan for callbacks
Mariam Hydara (Assistant Director):
things went well
figuring out where the balance is as AD vs. Director
case-by-case basis
open communication between AD and Director is critical
led to collaboration and learning
taking the reins for some scenes
thinking on suggestions
scheduling and availability was efficient
needs to be an emphasis on doing things earlier
having rooms booked the Friday the LATEST before
could’ve been more involved in the tech side
tell future ADs about coming to meetings as much as possible
Molly Flanigan (Technical Director):
awesome!
challenging and scary
but awesome!
jump from ATD to TD is huge
everything about this show was weirdly challenging
“House set, classic!”
learned how to lead
had to make decisions
primary concerns are: 1) communication and 2) disorganization within CT
went along very well
Renata and Molly felt blocked out
almost made crucial set design mistake with blocking that she wasn’t made aware of
could’ve met up with CT more
need CT mentors
had photoshoot during build week
ATDs are TD material <3
everyone did incredible!
try to meet up in person @CT
tech team was top of the line
try to hold onto them
issues were quickly resolved
set design took 5 tries lol
SAO and Home Depot issues
scheduling – build week with OB…
have to talk to other TDs especially regarding the Space
for future TDs, get into the rehearsal room quickly for fight scenes, etc.
Macy did exceptionally
Renata Feinstein (Producer):
second semester in Troupe
AP’d last semester with Natalie
used Natalie’s resources for this show
had a week where she didn’t do anything
had to create schedule
has to be in charge for other people
Producer’s Guide is not updated
restructuring was a task
scheduling was important
a week late put things off
needs to be determined at the beginning of the show
camera-wise… didn’t have personal camera
not a COM student – can’t access camera
getting a producer who isn’t a COM student without a camera – how do we help them?
getting the ticket link was late
closeness to TLM
limited time was difficult to promote
actual tech week felt really good
producing = planning
didn’t realize how much work it was
Macy Bornstein (Stage Manager):
interesting process
this CT was so experienced
felt like she didn’t know anything
can be an asset but also could be a detriment since they assume everyone knows everything
wasn’t fully informed about how the process works
rehearsal rooms went great leading up to tech week
timeframe for some scheduling should’ve been determined earlier
needed to understand what was happening
tech week was hard
What did “being in charge” of tech week mean?
didn’t know what paper tech was
didn’t know she was in charge of sound and light cues
felt at fault when things went wrong
a list of what a SM needed to do would have been better
felt bad that she wasn’t playing her role
Friday show was extremely stressful
Saturday and closing night helped her realign, “Maybe it wasn’t my fault”
new people should have someone to reach out to
didn’t know who to ask questions to
didn’t need to feel so overwhelmed
but it went well!
Show Check-ins
Ride the Cyclone (Fall Mainstage Show)
Guin Keith (Director):
good week
struggling with cast behavioral issue
specific member
don’t want to recast
feasible option is Guin or AD
will let E-Board know when they know
cast is divided
E-Board member could come to mediate
will look to develop Cast Expectations Contract
Claire Parrell (Technical Director):
Madeleine Clinch (Music Director):
Sarah Valger (Assistant Director):
Ian Aquino (Producer):
prepping for photoshoot in the next week or so
will attend creative team meeting tonight
getting ready to ~advertise~ for the show
Zoe Larrimer (Stage Manager):
scheduled this week's rehearsals
communicating with ASMs
Guin Keith (Choreographer):
long, productive dance rehearsal on Saturday
had room issue
couldn’t hear in the room
dividers are broken
no music for 5 hours!
